General
- On a small farm with no passing traffic
- Walking and biking routes very close by
- A few minutes' drive to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway
Would you like to pitch up among Pickering peace? Farm the folks (and dog) out to Haugh Rigg Farm four miles from town, set in a peaceful and quiet spot at the end of a small track with no passing traffic – you'll probably already know that splendid North Yorkshire scenery is all around too.
Haugh Rigg is a non-working farm that sees peeps escape to it for a peaceful retreat, as it has walking and biking routes very much nearby – again, probably no need to point out the splendid North Yorkshire scenery…It's only a few minutes' drive to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway and to yet more hikes and bikes in Dalby Forest.
Amenities include a toilet and shower block, a washing machine, and slides and swings for the kids; a small charge applies for using the showers and the washing machine. Starter packs with wood offcuts, small logs, kindling and firelighters for firepits and barbecues are available to buy on arrival.
And finally, as this is a peaceful and hidden-away site, do look at online maps to be sure of where you're going: it's a quiet spot and doesn't shout out its location.

There's quite a bit to do in the old market town of Pickering, a four- or five-mile walk away: as well as plenty of shops and its Monday market, people also come to see its castle, the Beck Isle Museum and the medieval wall paintings at Pickering Church.
The North Yorkshire Moors Railway (possibly the busiest steam heritage line in the world, trainspotters) starts from Pickering on its beaut run through the moors to Grosmont.
Haugh Rigg Farm has peeps pitching up in an area with plenty of coastal opps too: Flamingo Land is eight miles away, Helmsley 18 and Scarborough 20; if you're off to the coast you'll also likely like a look around Dracula, James Cook and goth centre Whitby.
