General

  • Quiet, family-friendly site 10 minutes’ drive from Withernsea
  • Within walking distance of two wildlife-packed nature reserves
  • Aquarium and small zoo a 40-minute drive away in Hull

Calling all walkers and wildlife spotters… fancy pitching up within strolling distance of not one, but two nature reserves? That’s the deal at Garth Farm Caravan and Camping in Hollym, less than 10 minutes’ drive from Withernsea’s coast and 40 minutes from Hull.

It's all trees and open fields in the surrounds of this family-run East Yorkshire site, and the pleasing rural views continue at Toffling Hill Reserve (a few minutes’ walk), a place of grassy areas, boundary trees and a shallow pond to explore. Continue your amble for a further 15 minutes to hit the woodland, meadow and open water of Hollym Carrs Reserve, where you should certainly keep an eye out for a variety of birds, mammals and insects while you wander.

Supplies can be picked up in nearby Withernsea, which has a couple of supermarkets, or Patrington (a five-minute drive), where it's highly recommended that you head to the local butcher to pick up bits for a barbecue back at base.

For those with a no-cooking-on-holiday rule, there’s a local pub serving food and drink, and a coffee shop dishing up homemade cakes and sandwiches at Crossroads Garden Centre; both are around 10 minutes’ walk away.

Facilities here are kept on the low-key side to ensure minimal impact on the surrounds, but the basics are covered in the toilet block on site.

We as a family love this site.(children 15year old boy,11year old girl and 7year old girl) We visited in august for our first basic camping trip and then recommened it to my mum and dad! we booked on this time round again with no electric my mum and dad booked 5 nights with electric. when Hannah relised we was booking together she accommated us and pitched us together, was great. we love this site as its very basic and very quiet,( this is what we wanted away from electronics, tvs and pure family time) with two clean toilets and one shower, its everything we wanted and needed in a campsite.
Saturday night Hannah accommaded our friends on a last minute trip with their caravan and was around to welcome them which was really nice to.

Thanks Hannah and family we have loved our breaks away on your lovely little campsite.

Around the site there is alot of walks which we all enjoyed.

PS the homemade brownies and oat and resins biscuits went down a treat.

    Disliked:

cant say much about disliked as there wasnt anything other than its quite uneven on the grass areas .

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely comments.
As this is is our first year we appreciate all comments and advices. We are hoping to put hardstandings down for 2021 for all caravans and motorhomes. These will be flatter and will still have their own water and EHU.
Thank you

Local attractions

Swap the rural scenes for seaside ones with a trip to Withernsea (less than 10 minutes by car). Along with arcades, shops, cafés and, of course, the beach, there’s also a lighthouse here with a museum; energetic visitors can clamber up the 144 steps to the top for pretty views.

Anglers should make time for some fishing in Holmpton (less than 10 minutes), which has a couple of public fishing ponds. While you’re in the village, delve into the underground nuclear bunker at the former RAF Holmpton.

Watery activities continue at Hornsea Mere, the largest freshwater lake in Yorkshire (40 minutes), with rowing, sailing, boat trips and fishing. It’s a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Protection Area for birds, so it’s a great spot for birdwatching, too.

There are more sights to be had on dry land, such as the Elizabethan Burton Constable Hall & Grounds (35 minutes).

Day trips to Hull city (40 minutes) come stacked with kid-friendly attractions, including The Deep aquarium (home to more than 3,500 marine creatures) and East Park, a public park with a small zoo and log flume ride.

Must see

  • The Deep (23.9 kilometers)
  • Ferens Art Gallery (24.5 kilometers)
  • Far Ings National Nature Reserve (33.0 kilometers)

National Trust

  • Maister House (24.0 kilometers)
