General

  • Quiet and friendly site on the banks of the river Chet in Loddon
  • On the edge of the Norfolk Broads, a half-hour drive from the coast
  • Boat moorings, slipway and river fishing on site

From vineyards and local mills to nosing around Norwich, there are all sorts of things to do from Loddon Campsite and Marina. This peaceful and friendly site in the Norfolk village of Loddon is near the banks of the river Chet and there’s no shortage of handy things around either, including pubs, shops and an excellent chippy within a short walk of the site.

The riverside setting is key here: guests have access to the water with moorings, a slipway for boats and space for fishing (for carp, tench, roach and perch, if you were wondering for what exactly). You’ll need to keep a good hold of your catch though, as there’s a resident heron on site that probably wouldn’t mind sharing in the spoils…

This is a handy spot for getting out and about in the Norfolk countryside: there are walks along the river just by the site or hire boats for a cruise along to the Norfolk Broads. Alternatively, head west to Norwich or east to the coast with a drive of half an hour or less. Dogs are welcome to join you on trips here, but must be kept on a lead.

    field is uneven an slopes .only electric in centre of field toilets not clean and no toilet paper lucky I carry some at all times incase its just an open field no gates

    Nothing this site was disgusting it was like staying at the dump site you wouldn’t let a dog shower in them showers very disappointed in this site the photos the good ones are not on the side it’s photos of next door where the river is

    we were a bit apprehensive about staying here after reading the reviews but we are so glad we didnt listen to the negativity. We arrived and checked in at the Marina office, 2 nice friendly guys. Yes its basic but it has everything you need, its quiet and peaceful even though it is so close to the Kings Head Pub. Lovely walks to the riverside, our dog loved playing in the stream that runs through the field from the river. You do need to bring a long lead for the electric (we had to join 2 together).
    There are shops, takeaway food shops & pubs all within walking distance. We loved our stay and will definitely be returning later in the year.

    Location was fantastic, lovely walks along the Marina or around the area of Loddon. Plenty of pubs restaurants & shops accessible directly from the site.
    If you’re not reliant on facilities then it’s a really nice place to stay.
    Disliked: 

    The toilets & showers were awful, certainly hadn’t been upgraded as had been stated in a response to previous comments. The site is on a fairly steep hill & the grass hadn’t been cut for some time. The electric supply is still around a tree in the middle of the pitch. We decided against using the water from the supply after seeing the results of the first cup of tea.

    Just perfect, quiet, yet right in the middle of this pretty and well served town with good walks all around.

    We kept saying it felt like we were in rural France!

    We were left alone to pitch up where we wanted to, good electrics and water and lots of space.

    It was like wild camping but with your caravan and mains hook up!

Local attractions

For those of you who thought you’d have to make a choice between the countryside or the coast, there’s no need to fret here, as Great Yarmouth beach (half an hour’s drive) is hardly a long drive away and there are lots of things to do, thanks to the amusement piers, sandy shore and funfair.

With a traditional seaside visit under your belt, next on the horizon could be a couple of places very close by. Perhaps Stubb Farm Alpacas (five minutes’ drive) for alpaca treks? Tasting your way around the Chet and Waveney Valley Vineyard (10 minutes)? A walk around Raveningham Gardens (10 minutes), followed by a hot brew in their tearoom?

Slightly further out, you might want to take a look around the working Hardley Mill (15 minutes) or spy on the wildlife around the Earsham Wetland Centre (15 minutes). Otherwise, Norwich (20 minutes) is not far away for a taste of the city life, shopping, museums and medieval cathedral included.

Steam engines are the speciality at the Strumpshaw Hall Steam Museum (half an hour), but for those of you looking for quite an action-packed day for the kids will also be well set with a visit to the Pettitts Animal Adventure Park (35 minutes).

If you need to cancel or amend your booking, please give as much notice as possible so that someone else has the chance to book. You may wish to buy holiday insurance for cancelations and for your property/injury whilst away.

Please note that your deposit is paid to Pitchup.com and is non-refundable.
