General
- Peaceful family-friendly site 20 minutes' walk from Ramsey town centre
- Half an hour's drive from the Nene Valley Railway; 40 minutes from Ely
- Playground, space for games and river frontage for seasonal fishing
Hankering after a country getaway but fearful of being stranded far from life’s useful amenities? Fret not, for it’s possible that Rivermill Touring Caravan and Camping Park’s nifty location may have the compromise you’re after.
Yes, this is a place where you can settle to enjoy a peaceful break in the Fens, fishing in the river that passes by the site, trotting out on to the footpaths that cross the local area or just putting your feet up with a beer in one hand and binoculars in the other to see what wildlife you can spot (muntjac deer, red kites, kestrels and kingfishers are among the creatures that sometimes call by).
And then when you need to head out, you can do so most easily – no need even to get in the car if you wish, as it’s a mere 20-minute toddle into Ramsey’s historic town centre for pubs, restaurants, banks and the like, with a sizeable supermarket even closer for foodie supplies. Should the rural pace of life leave you unwilling even to trot that far, local takeaways are happy to deliver up here.
If you’ve brought nippers who don’t believe in relaxing times, you’ll be chuffed to see there’s a playground on site, along with plenty of space for them to hare about and tire themselves out.
Rivermill is an unoccupied site, but it has a security gate.

Nice site but really lacking in essential items and dreadful access
From the manager...
Sorry that you must have missed the info on your booking terms etc that state the road can become difficult at times especially after rainfall, of that we have had quite a bit lately.. There is a squeegy in the shower to get rid of excess water after shower, we find this doesn't go walk abouts as much as the mops did.. So what was unclean about the facilities? You gave a 1/10 but only mentioned that the curtain was short and had no mop.. ? I did pop down to say hi, knocked but you must of been out as no answer, not sure that warrants customer service as a 1/10, I wasnt to know you wouldn't have been about..nice motor home by the way. |

Local attractions
You need not roam far to hit the local leisure facilities – Ramsey has not one but two golf courses, and a sports centre with a sizeable pool and a lengthy list of kids’ activities throughout the summer hols.
Looking a little further afield, a good day out can be had at the Raptor Foundation, 20 minutes away, meeting the birds of prey in their rehab centre and watching flying displays. There are also wild beasts galore (including kangaroos and big cats) over at Hamerton Zoo Park, half an hour away.
Train buffs will likely want to roll along to the Nene Valley Railway, half an hour away, where vintage steam and diesel trains run to Yarwell or Peterborough. Come along at the right time and you might even see Thomas the Tank Engine putting in a guest appearance. Closer to home, the Fenland Light Railway, 10 minutes away, runs miniature trains that are perennially popular with the tinies.
If you're more into your historic buildings, it's worth making the 40-minute drive to Ely for its cathedral, stained glass museum and Oliver Cromwell's House.

Why could your husband not fish? Many many people have been able to, please excuse my ignorance but what do you mean regarding pegs?
People who book should know it's an unmanned site as it clearly states online.. I am contact able via phone and every day when I'm at the site.
I didn't realise we needed up to date top of the range toilets to for to use the loo, sorry
You are camping in winter, it will of course be dark.
The access road is also mentioned, the bus happens to be our camper conversion for the rare occasions we get to go away as family, if you have seen our sons race cars, then you have entered into areas restricted by the public, so can I ask why you were there please?
