General
- Countryside setting in the Cotswolds, with pubs close by
- Easy access to Stratford, Leamington Spa, Oxford and Banbury
- Back to nature site with plenty of room and surrounded by woodland
For a wild countryside setting in the middle of Shakespeare country… escape to Edgehill Country Park, a basic site set up for guests to stay in a natural setting and wildlife haven. It's near the Edge Hill escarpment, where the first major battle of the English Civil War took place, right on the edge of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and surrounded by miles of Warwickshire countryside.
Among open fields and next to a mature woodland, plenty of wildlife spotting is around this relaxed back to nature site, which has loads of room for kids (and grownups) to wear themselves out. The site has been kept deliberately basic to be as natural as possible, but has an amenities block with toilets, one shower and a washing-up area. Pitches here are pretty spacious at an average of 8 x 9 metres; guests will need to make sure their vehicle and all kit fits within their allocated space.
Handily, four local pubs that serve food are within easy walking distance – two via roads and two across fields. There's also a small village five minutes' drive away for shops, a butcher, more pubs and a takeaway.

Excellent straight forward camping experience as described.
From the manager...
Thank you so much for the positive review. We are always relieved to know that our ethos is understood. Just natural camping with what we think are some bare essentials to make it more comfortable. Look forward to your return. |

From the manager...
This site is intended to be as close to nature without too much roughing it. A modern amenities block would not fit the aesthetics nor reflect the true working countryside, which we try to inform others about. Our amenity block is regularly cleaned but those spiders hide away and come back out when we leave. Very frustrating. With it being harvest time there is a great deal of dust in the air. Toilets washed round and floor stiff broom washed. This is a painted block built rural amenity. No heating and No electricity. Hot water system installed using solar system to enable the luxury of a shower and dish washing facilities. This is not intended to be anything other than camping in a field with a bit of a bonus to feel civilised. The regularly cleaned basic amenities are on the edge of the field within the trees. It is not quite back to basics but in the countryside it works. We are sorry you feel unable to visit again. |

Great site, basic but that’s what it’s sold as! Worth a trip.

Thank you for this response. We are very pleased you enjoyed the natural environment, created for people to reconnect in this age of automation and individualism. The environment we think is as close to nature as civilised can be without discomfort. We look forward to your return. |

We are disappointed to hear about the toilets. Particularly as the maintenance staff were painting the ladies that weekend. You booked Sat afternoon to arrive that afternoon and we apologies that our warden was having a break, he is generally a warm welcoming character. We wish you happier stays where ever. |

Very disappointed, after months of lockdown.
From the manager...
You are quite right-this is a lovely grass field with off grid hot showers/washing up and toilets. We always put friends together when we know they are meeting up, which is very difficult without prior knowledge, on a busy week end and on the arrival day. We were very pleased to have been able to reallocate before people arrived to achieve two double pitches opposite. Your preference to be on the large double pitches together allowed the friend arriving the next day to take the smaller pitch adjacent because we also relocated that person to enable this. We appreciated the thanks at the time for changing things around and enabling you to be with your friends. The BBQ area is available for all to eat and cook being about 50m from your pitch area. The weather was indeed intermittently wet. We are disappointed that the work involved in the above changes is not reflected in your review. |

Overpriced, basic faculties site
From the manager...
We noted that you and the friends you came with were disappointed that no fires are allowed on pitches. The reasons were Politely explained to your friends and no exceptions can be permitted. In addition the bank holiday is a more hazardous time for fires. The compromise this year is to have BBQs in a designated area away from tents. Thus avoiding, as much as possible, peoples irritation of smoke, smell, sparks and fire spread. This is for the safety of all. Incidentally, after many years of trading we do hope that we can one day make a profit. Pitch up, under important notes, states there is no electricity on site. We are disappointed this ‘killed your enjoyment‘ of the environment. |

From the manager...
We are delighted you appreciated our ample quantity of free hot water. This is supplied by a solar system installed to enable a back to basics experience with some comfort. The grass pitch is lovely because it is well maintained by regular cutting and feeding. The toilets run into a septic tank which is regularly serviced. You did not mention the hot free showers which also run into the septic tank. Nor the free hot washing up facility. All these facilities are Included and therefore reflected in the price. As is the Arbiculture work in the surrounding woodland enjoyed by our visitors. The toilet block is repainted inside twice a year. The added hand basins installed outside the toilets but under cover will invariable attract snails and spiders which we humanely remove. Our spiders sometimes outwit our regular frequent cleans. We would love to have fire pits but sadly legislation and claim culture currently restricts us as does site damage. We aim to keep the site basic and close to nature with a little comfort. |

Local attractions
Guests at Edgehill Country Park have loads of history to explore in the local area. Within 15 minutes' drive you could be in the lovely town of Stratford-upon-Avon, most famed as the birthplace of Shakespeare, but also home to Anne Hathaway’s Cottage and several theatres and music venues.
The castles of Warwick and Kenilworth are also both within easy reach, and over in Royal Leamington Spa, Jephson Gardens – home to a tearoom, a sensory garden and a botanical garden – is a splendid spot to tour on a sunny day, with the Royal Pump Rooms museum across the road being a pleasant place to wander around for an hour or so.
Around here is also land where the British motor industry began (and continues today) – the British Motor Museum is seven miles away in Gaydon, while over in Coventry there's the Coventry Transport Museum, both showcasing the finest vehicular specimens of Britain's motoring history; well worth the visit if you're an ardent appreciator of a good chassis.
For animal-based days, take the kids to see the 500-plus birds at Birdland Park and Gardens, or the peacocks and deer at Prinknash Bird Park. The world's biggest flocks of swans, ducks and geese can be witnessed over at the Wildfowl and Wetlands Trust reserve at Slimbridge, which also hosts events, talks and wildlife encounters throughout the year.
