General

  • Simple site on a working farm with access to a four-mile walking trail
  • About a 15-minute drive from Telford and 20 minutes from Ironbridge
  • Lilleshall golf club and sports centre within a 20-minute walk

Seeking somewhere small and simple for a serene stint in Shropshire? Swap bigger and busier places for a stay at Attwell Park Campsite, in a quiet location on a working farm around a 15-minute drive from Telford.

This fuss-free place with a portaloo but no other facilities is also around a 10-minute drive from a couple of other towns (Shifnal and Newport) with a handful of restaurants and in a fab location for idling around Ironbridge Gorge’s heritage sites (around 20 minutes).

Got your sights set on staying at this spot purely for a rest in the countryside rather than to shuffle around Shropshire’s historic sites? Chill out on the grounds with a picnic, perhaps blending a few leisure activities into the break by visiting Lilleshall’s golf club and sports centre (20 minutes’ walk away).

For longer wanders, head out on a pleasant four-mile walk down a private tree-lined drive to an award-winning pub near Newport. Feel free to take the dog – canine family members are permitted at this park.

Parking is available next to your pitch, so there’ll be no need to lug your luggage far.

This site is a grassy verge on the side of a public footpath. No water tap so when we mentioned it owner bought container of water for us. We pitched our motorhome £20 a night on the same grassy verge as tents £15 a night which we didn't think fair. The only facilities are a portaloo and a waste container.

Plenty of space between tents no need to pitch too …08/31/2020

Plenty of space between tents no need to pitch too close to others, lots of trees lovely rural location, the lighting of fires was permitted which is great nice place for wild camping. No need for parks or playgrounds the children can run up and down the track and make up there own games. Very basic no amenities but that was great for us, don’t stay here if you want lots of luxury you won’t find it.

    Disliked:

Maybe the addition of a couple more portaloos

Local attractions

Forgotten everything you learnt at school about the Industrial Revolution? Refresh your memory at a few of the 10 excellent museums dotted across the Ironbridge Gorge heritage site (20 minutes’ drive), including the interactive Enginuity, where visitors are invited to attempt pulling a locomotive by hand or test how quick their reactions are against a robot.

For somewhere a little more authentically old, bound over to Blists Hill Victorian Town (15 minutes), an open-air museum with staff recreating what life was like in the 19th century at shops, houses and schools from the period. Don’t miss the Iron Bridge that Ironbridge is named after either – it's a 100-foot cast-iron spectacle dating back to 1781.

Wander in Weston Park (10 minutes) next – set in the memorably named village of Weston-under-Lizard – with its fancy 17th-century mansion and landscaping by famed gardener Capability Brown before embarking on a lengthier amble up to Wrekin Hill (25 minutes).

Fan of flying? Zoom over to The Royal Air Force Museum (15 minutes), a must for those who like to amble around aviation-themed artefacts.
