General
- Set in a mature fruit orchard, with orchard walks
- Six miles from Sundown Adventureland theme park for under-10s
- Newly refurbished amenities block with heating, hot water and music
What a cleverly laid out site is Orchard Park Touring Caravan and Camping, on the edge of the town of Tuxford in Nottinghamshire. For one, it's all spaciously set out in a mature orchard of pear, plum and apple trees – picnics under the boughs, just possibly?
For two, there's an added area at the end of the park that's been left to grow naturally for years, which is now a flower-laden nature walk where butterflies and birds flutter (picnic, anyone?).
And for three and four – and for the kids – a play trail has been set aside at the edge of the orchard for small explorers, and carved wooden animals and other surprises to find are dotted around the orchard itself. It all sounds like a most fruitful way to spend a holiday…
The friendly team has also provided laundry facilities, a freezer for ice packs, and a spacious amenities room for disabled guests, which can be used by parents with young kids if needed. A shop at reception provides the essentials including eggs, milk, ice cream and sweets.
And although all is serenely countrylike and sheltered on site, Orchard Park is only a mile and a half from the A1 and access to day trips all over Nottinghamshire and its surrounds.
Not sure where to go or what to see? Visit the park information hut – another nifty little idea – where you'll find leaflets and maps on what to see and do locally, or ask the Orchard Park team for their many knowledgeable recommendations.
The very well-kept amenities include a centrally heated shower and toilet block with free hot water, free use of hairdryers and music piped through as guests lather up – you'll surely very much like that too.

Local attractions
The Robin Hood land of Sherwood Forest is 10 to 15 minutes' drive away, while kids and grownups can have a giddy good time swinging among the trees at the Sherwood Pines Go Ape.
If you have under-10s in the party, brighten their day with a visit to Sundown Adventureland at Retford, a theme park with Angry Birds, pirates and a smugglers' cove among its many rides and play areas.
The National Trust's Clumber Park will also keep small holidaymakers out of mischief for many (many) hours among its 3800 acres of lake, parkland, gardens and woodland; cycle hire is available to tackle some of the 20 miles of bike routes, and there's a secondhand bookshop for those who'd rather relax with a book by the water.
To take a trip around the region's urban areas, Newark is about 12 miles away and Lincoln within half an hour's drive.
