General
- Woodland wildlife haven with nature trails and woodland walks
- Directly opposite a stately home, four miles from Newark
- 44 acres of landscaped grounds with tearooms, playground and fishing
Now this is scenic camping… Kelham Hall and Country Park near Newark in Nottinghamshire is within the country park of the former Victorian mansion of Kelham Hall: pile the family to this country estate for a look at how the other half lived.
Entrance is free to the hall itself and there are tearooms serving snacks, cakes, ice creams and drinks. Meals are available at the Fox Inn, directly opposite the hall, throughout the day from 8am onwards (it's also got a good-sized beer garden if you simply require a cool drink).
But you might spend most of your time at Kelham roaming around the acres of landscaped grounds, woodland walks and pretty paths along the River Trent… There are nature trails for children, a playground, a riverside meadow to wander in, loads of space for ball games, and yet more places for private picnics or sitting and watching the wildlife.
Fishing and tennis are both available on site for an extra charge, as is a trailer tour (also fab) around the 44-acre estate's woodland, riverside meadow, sculpted gardens and secret monks' graveyard.
Kelham Hall and Country Park takes tents, tourers and motorhomes on its good-sized pitches, and has a shower and toilet block with refurbished shower cubicles.
