General
- Spacious family-friendly site on the edge of a Lincolnshire village
- A 15-minute drive from Grantham and 45 minutes from Lincoln
- Fishing lakes, golf course, clay pigeon shooting and a motocross track
With fish to catch, golf balls to putt and clay pigeons to shoot, it's truly all to play for at Humby Lakes, a 20-acre site hidden away on the edge of Ropsley, Lincolnshire. As you'll have likely gathered by now, this sporty spot is particularly well-suited to those seeking active hols, but with several scenic lakes and some lush green surrounds, it also makes a rather ace base for quieter country breaks.
Angling for a fishing trip? The well-stocked waters at Humby Lakes are mostly home to carp, roach and tench, with everyone encouraged to come down, join in and have a go. Equipment can be hired on site if you haven't got your own (or if there wasn’t room in the boot). The site also has a golf course, motocross track and clay pigeon shooting range if you're looking for more alfresco activity.
Barbecues, firepits and campfires are all allowed at Humby Lakes, as are well-behaved dogs. There aren't toilets or showers here, so you may want to bring your own or scout out a few local spots where you can scrub up – one such option is Grantham's leisure centre (15 minutes' drive).
The nearby village is also home to plenty of amenities – a pub, playground and golf club can all be reached in about 15 minutes on foot.

Local attractions
Make for Belton House (15 minutes' drive) if all the country pursuits you've indulged in on site have you in the mood for the high life – here you can stroll through a forest full of follies, take a breather out on the belvedere or book yourself onto a guided tour of the 17th-century house. Looking for another splendid structure to admire? Woolsthorpe Manor (15 minutes), a yeoman's house set in grassy grounds, was once the family home of Isaac Newton – and yes, the apple tree's still going strong.
Up for treading some more of Lincolnshire's eminently walkable land? There's a six-mile stroll that links up Ropsley (15 minutes' walk) and Humby (10 minutes' drive), passing through leafy woodland surrounds and briefly joining part of an ancient Roman road. Humby Lakes is also within half an hour's drive of Rutland Water Nature Reserve, where 25 miles of car-free paths leave you plenty of scope for sauntering or cycling around the water's edge.
Seaside jaunts are also far from out of the question – Skegness is about an hour and 15 minutes by road, while the wide open skies and coastal nature reserves of the Wash are roughly an hour away.
