General

  • Simple rural Herefordshire site five minutes' drive from Bodenham
  • A 15-minute drive from Hereford and Leominster
  • Dog-friendly site with fishing and Saturday night campfire gatherings

For a properly princely place to cast your line, check out Kingfisher Meadow Camping and Caravanning Park, a simple and laidback site just outside Bodenham in the Herefordshire countryside. Hereford town centre is a 15-minute drive from here, with the A417 a handy two-minute drive if you’re looking to get out and about further afield.

All is brilliantly set up here to help you make the most of peaceful outdoor life – there’s a sizeable pond on site for fishing, wildlife-watching and sunset-spotting, and the whole place is surrounded by quiet fields and farmland. There's also ample opportunity for strolling and cycling nearby (in the company of a canine companion if you’ve brought one along – they’re welcome on site), with both the Malvern Hills and Wye Valley within easy reach. Plenty of other day trips beckon further afield – there's a strong chance that Ludlow, Worcester, Bromyard or Ross-on-Wye will make an appearance on your list…

Barbecues and campfires are allowed on site, with firepits available to hire and logs to buy. On Saturday nights there's a special campfire evening to bring the whole community together, where one and all are invited to gather round a big blaze for a sociable evening by the flames. For non-self-cooked meals, there are also a couple of country inns within a 10-minute drive, plus supermarkets over in Leominster (15 minutes).

Quiet site, no frills just back to basics (no electric) which is fine with a campervan.
Saturday night firepit and fire engine was great. Something a little different and everyone was so friendly and welcoming.
Friendly staff, who stop and chat to you about the site and nearby attractions.
Small number of pitches, which was nice. The campsite wasn't busy and pitches are well spaced, so you don't feel on top of each other.
The facilities are basic, with no hot water, but that doesn't matter, that is what basic camping is about - boiling the kettle to wash up and have a wash.
We will definitely be going back.
    Thanks Darren & Tony.

    Beautiful setting, lovely quiet site.
Very tidy, close mown grass, gravel pitches with water to each pitch.
Toilets and washing up area clean.
No toilet paper or hand towels provided due to covid restrictions but that's not a problem, just take your own!
The bonfire area and communal entertainment was fun if that's your thing, but not intrusive if you want a quiet evening.

Fairly rural campsite so no road noise. The play park is really great for kids, both toddlers and a little older. Toilets fine (although one block was closed so it was quite a walk away with small children).

    Disliked:

I know it's supposed to be quite wild, but felt a little run down. Loads of building materials lying around nearby. For some reason the adjacent farm is piling cow manure 5 feet away from the play area, which isn't pleasant.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, the block you mention is for sole use of those renting pods and have their own key for these. The campsite toilets are always open.
Unfortunately we can’t do anything about the farmers doing what they do. It’s not pleasant I agree.. that’s rural living.

Everything about this place was amazing. The pitch was clean and flat with plenty of room to manouvre. The staff where really friendly and very helpful. The Saturday nights entertainment was a real treat. The communal fire alongside a musical party fire engine was a really nice and enjoyable. Made the camping trip a blast. The park was well maintained and suitable for my two year old and was big enough for the older kids. I loved seeing the novelty glancing pods and caravans. Just made it an even better experience. All in all, I can’t wait to return next year

Local attractions

Herefordshire vodka? It's possible at the Chase Distillery (10 minutes' drive), where locally-produced potatoes are used to make a tempting alternative to the county's far-famed perry and cider. If you'd rather go with the traditional option, it's also an easy 10-minute drive to Newton Court, the closest cider mill.

Once in a suitably mellow mood, head for Hereford (15 minutes), where the cathedral, Mappa Mundi exhibit and Black and White House Museum supply visitors with a bevy of family-friendly afternoons out. To stick with the historical theme, perhaps call in at the National Trust's Berrington Hall (15 minutes), a neoclassical country pile with great walks around well-kept grounds.

You can't really come to this part of the world and not pass through Ludlow: with finger-licking food outlets, top-rated markets and a castle, there's something here for almost all comers. Finally, those with energy left to expend can burn it off by stomping through the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (half an hour), where conquering the peaks and valleys is sure to leave you with a sense of supreme satisfaction.

Must see
