Looking to get away from home for a few nights in a serenely rural space? Set amid the varied landscapes of the National Forest is Measham House Farm, a peaceful farm site a few minutes' drive from the A42 and 10 minutes from Ashby-de-la-Zouch. That nifty location alone is a big plus, as it makes this place a prime pick for stopovers or longer breaks in these scenic countryside surrounds.
You'll be pitching up in one of two calm fields that have views over Derbyshire countryside and are a short walk from the handsome Georgian farmhouse that gives this site its name. The pitches are all well-drained and easily accessible, making for hassle-free arrivals and departures. The fields also have a standpipe with drinking water and an Elsan disposal point.
Measham House Farm is an easy mile's walk, cycle or drive from Measham, a thriving village with a range of independent shops, including a bakery and a butcher's. Special mention also goes to the top-rated waterside café on the edge of a peaceful fishing lake.
This family-friendly site welcomes four-legged guests, who are sure to help you sniff out plenty of spots for long country strolls nearby. You won't have to go far to get active – the flat and car-free Ashby Woulds Heritage Trail, which runs along the old Ashby and Nuneaton Railway, can be picked up in Measham village centre.

Local attractions
Travelling in the company of kids? They'll likely be rather keen on visiting Twycross Zoo (10 minutes' drive), seeing as it has one of the largest collections of monkeys and apes in the western world. Some critters like lemurs, lorikeets and goats are free to interact with human visitors if you want to feed them or get some close-up snaps.
You can also visit many a historic building in this part of the Midlands, with top local spots being held by Ashby de la Zouch Castle (10 minutes) and Calke Abbey (15 minutes), a Grade I-listed house managed by the National Trust. Those interested in the past should also pack some walking boots and head out to Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre (25 minutes) for self-guided tours of the 15th-century battle site.
The National Memorial Arboretum (30 minutes), a terrific tree-packed place in Staffordshire, is a further source of fab fresh air. After a spot of contemplation here, end the day on an active note by heading to Willesley Park Golf Club (five minutes) or Conkers outdoor adventure centre (10 minutes).

Hi Debrs,
I'm sorry you were disappointed with your stay here at Measham House. We hope you enjoyed the break seeing your family regardless. Please find some comments in response to your review of the site. We feel our listing represents both the facilities we offer, and the environment in which the site is set. Our USP is the simplicity of our site, sat within close proximity to national transport links, but also set rural surroundings. Guests enjoy the smaller, quieter format we offer, and often are seeking this rather than a larger site. Your stay was slightly different to the usual stay we would offer as we had tried to accommodate your request for a hard standing pitch. Measham House only offer grass pitches, and therefore to accommodate your request, we had placed you on the edge of our 'high season' pitches, where a cable can extend to hard standing provided by our farm yard. This 'high season' field is now closed for winter, as we explained, the toilet disposal was not open, but another disposal site could be found in the next field where our grass pitches are. In terms of dog walking, we do expect all our guests to pick up after their pets. In addition, I offered your husband access to our 32 acre field to exercise the dog. We also have 'public rights of way' surrounding the farm which we would have been happy to direct you to - these 'rights of way' safely link to the villages of Measham & Packington, and open up the countryside beyond as you are correct that the roads near us can be fast due to the close proximity to the M42.
Again we are sorry the site didn't live up to larger touring sites you are used to, we'd be happy to welcome you and your husband back should you be in the area again to visit family.
