It's free, quick and easy!
- Farming homestead with poultry in an agricultural neighborhood
- A five-minute drive from Ramona wineries; 35 minutes from Julian
- Horses and other animals on site; cafés, stores and restaurants nearby
The Eyrie Farm is an organic farm homestead with all sorts of animals: red-tailed hawks at their nest, hummingbirds, songbirds and their own quail, chickens, turkeys, ducks and pheasants to mingle with. Along with the friendly poultry and horses, they have a large expanse of open pasture behind the main living compound put aside for dispersed camping.
That’s where you come in – if you’re after a family-friendly, back to basics getaway in California, this is the spot. The Eyrie Farm has a security dog on duty every night, who patrols the perimeters and protects their flock from predators (on that note, if you’re not okay with dogs, this is not the place for you).
There are shops, cafés and restaurants in Ramona, within 35 minutes’ walk or five minutes’ drive of the site. Hiking trails are a short drive away and lakes with watersports are located further out. Wineries in and around Ramona are also accessible from within five minutes’ drive of the site.
This is a tents-only site, but truck pop-up tents are fine. In springtime, the field is lush and green from the rain. Summer and autumn are typically hot and dry with a cool evening breeze. The site’s shut only in the rainy season, when the pasture is too wet to drive on. Guests are recommended to carpool to this site where possible.
