It's free, quick and easy!
- Surrounded by mountains, five minutes' drive from Villablino
- Kids' activities and cookery classes on site
- Hiking, mountain biking, canoeing and climbing nearby
What a cracking Castile and Leon setting this is – Laciana Natura is in a real sweet spot, with mountains on one side (for outdoorsy activities and gorgeous views to gaze at) and the town of Villablino five minutes’ drive away on the other (for handy access to eats and drinks in the supermarket, restaurants and cafés).
Mountains next door means, of course, plenty of options for getting out and about, whether you’re in the market for hikes, mountain biking, climbing or canoeing or making your way here through the snow for some skiing.
Fab family hols rely of course on keeping the kids happy, and the folk here have made an effort to make that happen, providing a play area, a sports pitch with goals for their football games and a toy library for the tiddlers. There’s also a busy programme of activities aimed at the small sorts, including cookery lessons (sign up for these and perhaps that’s your dinner sorted), plus special celebrations on request for things like birthdays.
Eats are important for familial harmony too so it’s handy to note that there’s a restaurant on site for times when you don’t fancy the jaunt into town. And as drinks often play a part in inducing smiles from the grownups, there’s also a bar for chilled beers at the end of the day.

Local attractions
Get set for active times: there are lots of ways to take in the outdoors around these parts. Have a chat with the folk on site for insider info on the area’s best hikes and mountain bike routes: they’ll happily point you towards waterfall walks, trails that lead to lakes, or rambles on the Laciana Greenway (which passes very close to the site).
If you’ve got different sports in mind, local activity centres can take you out for days of climbing, canoeing or horse riding, or you can wait until winter for skiing at the resort of Leitariegos, 10 kilometres away.
To get underground without too much scrambling, make for Las Médulas (an hour and a half’s drive), where you can wander into ancient caves and see some stunning scenery partly created by an ancient Roman gold mine. Also around an hour and a half away by car are the cities of Oviedo and Léon, both fine places for a day of wandering old streets and picking up tasty eats.
