- Within 10 minutes' drive of Mane and Sigonce
- Pool, play area, communal lodge and bar-restaurant with terrace
From brekkies of croissants to a setting deep in Provence, it's so very French around here. Huttopia Camping Forcalquier is mere minutes by foot from the handsome town of Forcalquier, capital of the Haute-Provence region in days of yore (aka the Middle Ages). The town is set splendidly on a hillside between the Lure and Luberon mountain ranges, surrounded by olive groves and lavender fields: it, like the site, is mighty Provence pretty.
French essentials like the Tour de France can be keenly followed on the gogglebox in the Camping Forcalquier comfy central lodge, along with tennis, football and other major sporty fixtures you may care to follow while on your south-west France hol. Order your bread and croissants the night before to have a fully French breakfast when you awake – hopefully already prepared for you by your thoughtful and early rising other half?
The site restaurant dishes up French food as well as a goodly range of international options (just in case your enfants terrible are still at the pizza-insistent stage rather than expanding their gastronomic horizons), and the friendly team arrange themed dinners once a week in high season. Outside meal times, or for aperitifs, digestifs and in-betweenifs, settle your idle self on the bar-restaurant terrace for an idle hour or two.
Leisure facilities include a pool to suit all ages, a play area (kids only, even if you're sorely tempted to have a swing after your digestif), table tennis and an area for volleyball and pétanque. The central lodge has board games, books and free wifi.
Also on site are cleanly-kept toilets and showers, a laundry area with washing machine and dryer (tokens on sale at reception) and a motorhome waste disposal point.
A supermarket, bakery, bank and tourist info point are all available at Forcalquier, 500 metres away.

Local attractions
This is such a pretty part of France, with architectural heritage going back centuries, old villages and traditional markets, fragrant lavender fields and hillside towns all to explore.
Local town Forcalquier was a rich capital of the Haute Provence in medieval times: these days, make your way here on a Monday for the busy market in the main square of Place du Bourguet, followed by a fully flavoured French coffee in one of the square's cafés. From Place Jeanne d'Arc, climb the cobbled path to the chapel above town for excellent views of the Provençal landscape below.
Speaking of which... anyone interested in snapping pics or inhaling scents of the famed Provençal lavender fields should add Simiane-la-Rotonde to their holiday itinerary too: this beaut hillside town 40 minutes' drive from Camping Forcalquier is surrounded by fields of the stuff, and is well worth a visit for its handsome old buildings as well. You can get smashing views from the 16th-century covered market in town, and from the spectacular 12th-centrury rotunda at Simiane-la-Rotonde's top.
Garden fans should head for Mane, a few kilometres from the site, for the Jardins du château de Sauvan around an 18th-century manor house, and the Jardins du prieuré de Salagon, with public park and museum. Also highly recommended by the team is the village of Sigonce, 10 minutes' drive away, with its old buildings, squares filled with flowers, and access to peaceful walks in its scenic surrounds.
