It's free, quick and easy!
- Quiet friendly site less than a kilometre from Saint-Jean-de-Monts
- Reach the beach via a peaceful bike ride or ride through pine forest
- Spectacular covered swimming pool with spa and paddling pool
Keen mountain bikers, wobbly first riders and all the levels in between are catered for at Camping Le Bois Verdon: several cycle paths (and footpaths) start from the grounds into the countryside and around this comely part of the Vendée coast.
You could, for example, hire a bike on site and pedal off through its pinewood to the beach at Saint-Jean-de-Monts a kilometre away, ride around the coast to Saint Gilles Croix de Vie, or up the ante at the quad biking track five kilometres away. Whichever you plump for, cyclists of all flavours should have a top time in the Vendée, a region with more marked cycle paths than anywhere else in France – including the fab long-distance route along the Atlantic coast of La Vélodyssée, accessible mere minutes from here.
Away from the saddle, Camping le Bois Verdon is a quiet, friendly site welcoming families and dogs. Its main pull is its spectacular covered pool (see pics), which comes with a spa, plenty of splashing space and a paddling pool with water games. Amenities are well looked after and include toilets, showers, disabled facilities and a launderette.

Local attractions
Pedal off from the site via the pinewood to reach the golden sandy beach of Saint-Jean-de-Monts, or stay on paved paths to reach its section of La Vélodyssée, the famed cycle path running for over 1,200 kilometres from Brittany, across to Île de Noirmoutier, and finishing up near Saint-Jean 10 kilometres down the coast at Saint Gilles Croix de Vie.
If you'd rather stay close to home, watersports including surfing, canoeing, land yachting and paddleboarding can all be accessed in Saint-Jean-de-Monts; a golf course is within half a kilometre, and Explora Parc, an adventure park with climbing walls, base jump, ziplines and archery, is a kilometre away.
More outdoorsy activities can be found a few kilometres along the coast at Saint-Hilaire-de-Riez, where you can venture to one of the sailing centres to learn boating and kayaking, canter off into the surrounding forest courtesy of the riding stables, or pedal around the marina, salt marshes or the mud huts of the Bourrine du Bois-Juquaud eco museum.
From Saint-Hilaire, it's a kilometre to the Atlantic Toboggan waterpark, and two to the Feeling Forest tree climbing adventure park.
