General

  • Family site in countryside less than five minutes’ drive from a beach
  • Adventurers’ paradise: within 10 mins of Brière Regional Natural Park
  • On-site waterpark with pool, slides, paddling pool and sun terrace

Dreaming of a seaside getaway in a peaceful countryside spot? You may have dreamed of Camping Parc du Guibel, a family-friendly site in the countryside five minutes’ drive from Piriac resort town in the Loire-Atlantique department of Pays de la Loire, south of Brittany.

Parc du Guibel is a prime point for beach getaways: the site is less than five minutes' drive from the coast and the beach (Port-Kennet) for swimming, following the coast path or lying out on the sand, and about five minutes from the watersports centre in Piriac where you can try sailing, kayaking and paddleboarding.

You don’t have to go as far as the beach to get your toes wet either – there’s a waterpark with pool, slides, paddling pool and solarium back on site, so go for a dip or take the plunge. If you’re tiring of wrinkly fingertips, step out of the water and have a go at miniature golf, volleyball, badminton, ping pong or pétanque instead, before heading to the multisports area for tennis, basketball and handball.

Worked up an appetite? During high season, make your way to the bar-restaurant for a bite and a drink, or fend for yourself by picking up some goodies at the on-site grocery shop and piling them up on the barbecue. Alternatively, treat yourself to a meal at one of the many restaurants within 10 minutes of Parc du Guibel.

Great outdoor surroundings ie pine and oak woodland. The pitches were good and not too close together.
Swimming pools and slides were a great hit with the children and adults.

The reception personnel did a great job and went out of their way to move us closer to the pool/bar areas at our request due to one member of the family with mobility issues, thanks for that!

    Disliked:

There was a lot of maintenance work required around the swimming pool area, missing tiles in pool and lots of loose paving slabs around the toilet and shower areas.

The windows around the indoor pool needed cleaning badly.

The wooded campsite is fabulous. It is so beautiful, peaceful and cool so our tents stayed cool. We were able to put a hammock up between the trees which was a bonus. Facilities are clean and staff are friendly and accommodating. The swimming pool is superb. It’s warm and clean, with indoor swimming, a lazy river and bubble relaxing area. Outside the kids loved the slides and with varied depths it’s great for little ones. The food is delicious the kids ate everything and it was fast, just what we needed after a long drive. The kids really enjoyed the table air hockey, pétanque and entertainment. We loved our very relaxing 8 day holiday at your lovely campsite. Thank you!

I booked this campsite before looking at the reviews as was looking for somewhere with a pool and close to the beach, which it had both of them. After reading the reviews I was a little disheartened but decided to go with an open mind. The site is set in a national park so the pitches are going to be partially shaded with fallen debris its what you would expect in natural woodland. The pitches are all a very good size. The shower/toilet block is what you would expect. They don't have seats on the loo's but nowhere in France does and they are clean. The showers are also clean very powerful spray and hot water. You may have to press it a few times to reach full temperature.
Your left to your own devices no one bothers you staff very helpful. The pool is fantastic. I think you get a lot for your money and would return no hesitation

    Disliked:

On site shop very limited and very expensive. There is a local super market (super u) approx 5km or a Lidl 15km away.

should be an excellent campsite but it falls far short of that sadly.10/08/2019

Plus sides to this campsite are the great pool with water slides which kept the kids happy as did the games room/ bar. ( keep some spare change handy ).
Family friendly site with plenty to do for the children. Football area/ table tennis/ pétanque/ games room and play area for smaller children.
The staff were very friendly and helpful, and there were alternative tent pitches available if your allotted pitch is unsatisfactory.
There is plenty of hot water for showers, and the electricity supply’s are close by and work.
The campsites location was also perfect for the local villages and beaches although a short drive away.

    Disliked:

This campsite has the feeling and look of somewhere rundown and poorly managed. I’m sure it was once a great place as the infrastructure is all there.

The bar/ restaurant/ games-room is an eclectic mix that lacks any charm.
Behind the bar you’ll find a disorganised mess akin to a scene from ‘The Hangover’. However it does have the only decent toilet on site.

The advertised free WiFi often doesn’t or barely works and is only available at the bar. Don’t expect to use social media or download any films! Download speed 0.27 mbps, upload speed 0.05 mbps. This is the slowest WiFi I’ve ever come across.
Of course we shouldn’t be spending our time on our phones etc but it is nice to have the option on a rainy day.

The shop is very poorly stocked with no fresh produce. They sell BBQs and firefighters but no charcoal for example! However this doesn’t really matter as there’s little to put on it. So stop at the supermarket on the way.

The advertised gas for your stoves isn’t (and I think never was), available onsite but can be found at the local supermarket if you’re lucky.

The shower/toilet/washing blocks are a disgrace. There are no toilet seats and they don’t flush properly, which leaves them disgusting to use. The vanity lights for shaving etc have no bulbs. Using these facilities was a real low point of the stay and should be redressed by the management ASAP. The showers do at least have plenty of hot water.

The tent pitches are adequate but again, are poorly maintained. I’d recommend you bring a small rake or broom to clear the ground of all the fallen debris that’ll poke through your groundsheet.

I am an experienced traveller and have been camping alone and with my family across Europe for the last 45 years. I take no pleasure in writing a negative review but I know that this could and should be helpful to anyone thinking of booking at this campsite in the future.
I hope the management realise that a little more input and some better organisation could make this place really good and a joy to stay at.

Local attractions

Camping Parc du Guibel is less than 10 minutes from the edge of Brière Regional Natural Park, a nature reserve you can explore on foot, by bike or canoe, from horseback, or (if all of those are a little too much effort) on a barge that brings you through the Grand Brière Mottière marsh.

There’s more to it than rambling exploration too: pick your way around the ruins of the Château de Ranrouët, bring the kids to the Monkey Forest leisure park, experience a traditional Brieron village at Kerhinet open-air museum and keep your eyes on the skies at the bird reserve at Pierre Constant, all within 45 minutes of the site.

Craving something more urban? Parc du Guibel is 15 minutes’ drive from the walled town of Guérande, where there’s plenty of history to uncover: wander the medieval streets, make a trip to the old ramparts and visit the museum at Porte Saint Michel.

A little further afield, head to Saint-Nazaire, half an hour away, for its scenic boardwalk, the old port, the submarine Espadon and heritage museum, and the Escal-Atlantic historic ocean liner experience.
