It's free, quick and easy!
- Family site in the middle of Scarpe-Escaut Regional Natural Park
- A five-minute drive to Saint-Amand-les-Eaux; 40 minutes to Lille
- Heated pool, bar, playground and outdoor fitness area on site
The Scarpe-Escaut Regional Natural Park became the first of its kind in France when it was created back in 1968 – and that surely tells you something about how lovely this part of the Nord-Pas-de-Calais is.
Family-friendly Camping Le Mont Des Bruyères sits pretty much in the very centre of the natural park – and that should also tell you something about the excellent surroundings of this site. There’s gorgeous green scenery all around here, with plenty of options for walks, bike rides, horse riding and watersports days… and yet it’s still easy to get to amenities like shops and restaurants a couple of kilometres away in the centre of Saint-Amand-les-Eaux.
It’s all very green and peaceful on site too, with plenty of shade around from the trees when it gets a little warm. The heated swimming pool is a good place to spend an hour or two of downtime, or you may like to play a few games of table tennis, pétanque or giant chess. There’s also a playground on site, and an outdoor fitness area for those who feel the need for a bit of a workout.
Whatever activity you opt for, you can fuel up before and after with food from the café/takeaway, drinks from the bar or your own meals made with bits picked up from the grocery shop and bread point. Evening entertainment runs in summer, including sociable themed meals – have a look out for what might be on while you’re there.
Fully serviced pitches here have water and electricity points along with access to a launderette and 24-hour bathrooms.

Local attractions
Whether you’re a keen hiker or more of a leisure walker, there’s a trail for you in the 43,000-hectare Scarpe Escaut Regional Natural Park, through old farms, past historic buildings or perhaps along the banks of one of the two rivers that give the park its name.
For other ways to see the scenery, look out for local riding centres or rental centres for kayaks and boats, or climb up into the trees to follow the trails at Pure Aventure (15 minutes’ drive). If you fancy taking it in at a more leisurely pace, board the Valley of the Scarpe steam train in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux (five minutes’ drive).
Stop in for a bit of history as you roam too, getting a glimpse of life on the Maginot Line at the Casemate du Mont des Bruyeres (two minutes), or learning about the industrial past at Arenberg Creative Mine (10 minutes). There’s also urban history on hand in Tournai (half an hour) and Lille (40 minutes).
Worn out? Maybe it's time for a soak in the Saint-Amand-les-Eaux thermal baths (five minutes)…
