General

  • Riverside site between Paris and Disneyland Paris
  • A 20-minute bus ride from Paris city centre: bus stop outside the site
  • Bar, bistro, spacious terrace, playground, gym and multilingual team

Fancy a romantic or family hol in splendid Paris – but come down with les vapours at the thought of Paris hotel prices? Give Camping Paris Est a go to save more euros for souvenirs and eats: it's only 20 minutes from the capital, and between the city and heady days out among Mickey and co at Disneyland Paris 40 minutes away.

Set on the banks of the Marne river in the Paris outskirts, Paris Est is a family-friendly site (but of course), with a fair bit to do on days not sightseeing or rollercoastering: there's a bar and bistro with a spacious terrace, a gym at which to (attempt to) burn the lot off, and a playground where the kids can go loopy in between trips to see Mickey et al at Disneyland Paris. The grocery shop on site stocks fresh fruit, veg and a wide range of other foodie bits.

And if you're not sure where to start when exploring the very famed capital city of France? The multilingual and amiable site Camping Paris Est team can give you all the tips you need, as well as a hand booking activities of all sorts.

    Disliked:

Very unkempt. The whole site is covered in weeds, hasn’t seen a ground man this season. The pitches are small and random trees in the middle of the pitch entrance. Very overpriced for 2 stars look and feel. Full of workman and vans. I couldn’t stay more than a day only stop over.

The location (about 10km outside of Paris), about 35 minutes to Disneyland and about 40/45 minutes to Versailles. We stayed for 4 nights and were able to see all of these okapis during our visit. The facilities on the site are very good; nice clean toilets (including small toilets for small children) plenty of showers and washing cubicles, clothes and dishwashing facilities, shop/restaurant (which does great [pizzas) on site with some play areas for kids as well. The electric tent pitch we were allocated was a suitable size for our large 8 berth tent with parking available next to the pitch also. Parc Du Tremblay a couple of minutes away which is great for the kids as it has lots of open space, aah;etics tracks, basketball courts, climbing frames/play areas, water play areas and lots more. There is also a small skate park right next to the campsite. The security on site was good as you are given access codes to the site for both driving in and a locked gate which takes you onto the beautiful River Marne with nicely tree-lined footpaths alongside. We travelled here from England with 3 boys (10, 3 and 1.5) and it was a great experience, would definitely stay here again.

    Disliked:

The campsite is next to a busy motorway (through some trees) so although you don't see the traffic from the site, you do hear it, and it is all day and all night! Surprisingly it is easy to get used to the noise though and we had no problem sleeping through it, even with small children. Some of our neighbours old us they had some solar lights stolen from outside of their pitch when they were out surfing the day so it's probably best to take any valuable or 'stealable' items out with you. We had no reason to feel unsafe throughout our stay. This is a large site and while we were there, there were large groups of workmen and TV crews staying in chalets nearby and next to our tent presumably as they were on jobs or travelling through to jobs. They made very little noise and were courteous and mindful that we had small children but there were lots of work vehicles and lorries with equipment around which made an already not very 'pretty' site, less so. It's a functional place, rather than picturesque but it does it's job very well.

Good site for getting to Paris or Disneyland Paris.04/01/2020

Staff were helpful with explaining which buses and metro trains to get on with getting into and around Paris and surrounding areas. There was also a train strike during our stay which staff made us aware of.

Bus stop is right outside of the campsite and takes you directly to the train station which is around a 15 to 20 minutes journey. This is a direct line into Paris or Disneyland Paris. Staff at the train station were helpful and explained which trains/platforms to use. They also explained about the train strike and that we needed to make sure we got on a train before the last one at 6.30pm.

    Toilet/shower areas are cleaned daily.

    Disliked:

No soap, sinks or dryers in toilet area. Toilet seats cracked. Showers were hit and miss. Some had shower heads others had a pipe only coming out of the wall. Some of the showers temperature controls were stuck which resulted in a cold or too hot shower. With the showers with the controls that did work, it was a bit hit and miss with actually controlling the temperature of the water.

There was an odour of sewage in the shower area.

There was work going on when we stayed in December with updating and reorganising the park which meant static caravans were all over the place. Made the campsite feel a bit run down.

We had booked a grass pitch as there were no hard standing pitches available. When we arrived, staff initially had us down as staying for 2 days even though I had given them our booking confirmation which showed 6 days. They said it was the computer system that was showing the wrong dates! After being given the key to our pitch (there was no mention of this when booking that you have to give credit card details to secure the key and if you lose it, you will be charged 20 euros) we went to look for our pitch. There were static caravans blocking the way in and as we have a large caravan (8ft wide by 27ft long), there was no way we were getting our tourer past these or onto the pitch as the gap was too small. We went back to reception to explain this and they said it was because the static caravans were in storage which is why they were in the grass pitch area. After a while, our pitch was changed to a hard standing one at no extra charge. This was a better pitch but it was still a shunt to get our caravan onto the pitch. Some roadways are wider than others and the hard standing camping pitches are amongst the static caravans.

As there is a main road that passes by the campsite, road traffic noise is constant day and night.

There is a speed limit on the site which we adhered to, pity others don't as we were flashed to get out of the way and were also attempted to be overtaken on the site.

The campsite was not the easiest to get to if taking your tourer. Getting to it by vehicle only was a lot easier.

Local attractions

Paris is a paltry 20 minutes away by public transport (a bus stops right outside the site) and is crammed with world-famed sights and attractions that'll likely have you booking to come again before you've even said au revoir.

Particularly recommended among the many by the Camping Paris Est team is the Louvre, the gallery housing the mega-famed Mona Lisa among its 35,000 or so objets d'art from prehistoric times to the present day.

Lounge around under the Pyramid on the Louvre Palace grass after a long trip around the exhibits and then wander along the museum's Right Bank location for a brasserie bite to eat or a coffee on a tiny terrace before a photographic peramble along the Champs-Élysées…

And then there's Île-de-France's other famed location… kids and big kids have Disneyland Paris 40 minutes away, for rides, thrills, Disneyland Village, and the chance to be snapped with the likes of Mickey Mouse and Buzz Lightyear.
