Could there be magic in the air at The Enchanted Campsite? It’s quite possible, if the glowing reviews of previous guests at this Northern Cyprus site are anything to go by...
So what is it that encourages them to use words like ‘brilliant’, ‘perfect’ and ‘paradise’ about this place? Well, first up there’s the excellent setting, on a four-acre rural estate surrounded by farmland and forests for maximum peace and quiet. And on top of that there’s the view of the Mediterranean waters glimmering in the distance; the coast is a 25-minute walk away for those times when you’d like to get right up close for a boat trip or a swim (in the sea or in the pool – your choice).
The plaudits don’t end there… there’s also praise for friendly, helpful owners Paul and Kay, along with the collection of facilities that they’ve kitted the place out with. The modern toilet/shower block is always kept sparklingly clean, and the barbecue and kitchen areas are stacked with handy stuff including plates, cutlery and barbecue utensils. Food supplies are in Sipahi or Yeni Erenköy, both less than 10 minutes' drive away.
Whether you believe in magic or not, what’s definitely in the air above your head is a great big sky full of stars – they’re much in evidence on most evenings here, as the rural location is far, far away from light pollution and therefore a great place to lie back and gaze up into the stars.

Local attractions
Should the sea be calling your name (and it’s likely it will be…), saunter down to Karpaz Marina in 25 minutes or so. There’s a serviced beach area here (for which you’ll need to pay), and the marina’s also got a play area, dip pools and a kids’ pool (with a shade to protect their delicate skin).
Get in the car and there are lots more beaches to hit up at this end of the island – try the sands of Kocareis (55 minutes) or dune-backed Golden beach up at the very tip of the peninsula (40 minutes). Alagadi beach (an hour) is well worth a visit too – this one’s a popular nesting spot for sea turtles, and you can learn a bit about them at the conservation centre by the beach.
Slot a bit of culture in between beach times with visits to Kantara Castle (55 minutes), the Royal Tombs of Enkomi (55 minutes) and the ancient city of Salamis (an hour). Famagusta’s walled city and ‘ghost town’ abandoned tourist area are just over an hour’s drive away, and the eco-village of Buyukkonuk (40 minutes) is a great place to learn about local life or snap up arts and crafts.
