It's free, quick and easy!
- Beachfront family site, five minutes’ drive from port town Orebić
- 20-minute ferry from Orebić to Dominče to explore Korčula island
- Surfing school and kit hire, cycle hire, playground and beach bar
Perhaps you’re an old pro with the board or just hoping to take your first steps – either way, Pelješac peninsula site Camping Perna, a couple of hours’ drive west of Dubrovnik, is a fine pick for surfers of all stripes.
It’s a short stroll from this family-friendly site to a 600-metre pebble beach; the sea stays fairly shallow for a stretch, which is handy for any nippers in your group, and the waves are a hit with surfers. There’s a surfing centre with surf school on the beach, so you can rent equipment or opt for lessons if you need to brush up on your skills.
Not convinced any amount of lessons will get you upright on a board? No worries – there are other watersports to try out here, along with things like beach volleyball, basketball, table tennis and boules. Alternatively, rent bikes on site and trundle off for explores of the local area, or over on the nearby island of Korčula.
Should kids have any steam left after all that surfing and cycling, there’s a playground to take care of that, while the grownups can relax with a drink at the beach bar… or possibly slope off for a pampering massage. For more drinks and eats, there are several places a short stroll away on the beachfront, and a supermarket is also close by.

Local attractions
Start local wanders with a trip to Orebić, a little port town five minutes’ drive or 50 minutes’ coastal ramble away. Once you’ve trotted around town, head to its eastern end for a tour and tasting at Korta Katarina Winery, a place that creates top-notch red, white and sparkling wines (and just happens to have a good restaurant too, if you fancy some eats to go with your tipples).
Orebić is also the jumping-off point for the 20-minute ferry ride to the fab island of Korčula, where you can visit the former home of intrepid explorer Marco Polo, poke around in the Old Town, rent kayaks or bike your way around between beaches and little wineries (what a fine combo…)
For splendid sea views from on high, take one of the marked hiking trails on Sveti Ilija mountain (10 minutes’ drive). Somewhat less taxing walks can be had on the medieval city walls of Ston (an hour).
