  • Friendly Western Australia holiday park with excellent amenities
  • In the small coastal town of Cervantes, two hours' drive from Perth
  • Outdoor pool, spacious shared kitchen, barbecue area and games room
The Western Australian coast is basically one big bonanza of beaches, sunshine and seafood. If that combination appeals – or if you like the idea of mixing it up and heading inland to Nambung National Park – check out RAC Cervantes Holiday Park, a family-friendly holiday destination with some truly top facilities. Located two hours north of Perth just off State Route 60, staying at the well-maintained accommodation here also gives you access to entertainment options like a nature playground for the kids, a heated outdoor swimming pool and a games room with a pool table. For food-related affairs there's a similar amount of choice, with a café, a well-equipped shared kitchen and a spacious outdoor barbecue area to take advantage of. The park backs onto Catalonia Park, a pleasant recreation ground where Cervantes locals and visitors have ample room for exercise along the coast. Just beyond is the sandy beach, while a short stroll away into town brings you to a visitor centre, lobster restaurants, shops and a country club. More scenic spots like Hansen Bay Lookout and the Lake Thetis Stromatolites are around five minutes away by road. Just on the other side of State Route 60, you have Nambung National Park, a vast coastal desert that's full of wildlife and unusual rock formations.

Local attractions

According to the park's staff, Hangover Bay (15 minutes' drive) and Kangaroo Point (10 minutes) are two of the best beaches in Western Australia. Don't just take their word for it, though – head down to either (or both) to see for yourself and make use of their picnic facilities, barbecues and toilets. Five minutes' drive from the park entrance, there's also Nambung National Park, home to The Pinnacles Desert, a collection of huge limestone pillars surrounded by typical Coral Coast heathlands. To learn more about this landscape and its history, head to the park's discovery centre (15 minutes) and explore some of the species of animal and plant life that lives in this 17,000-hectare reserve. Looking to lounge some more by the Indian Ocean? For a change of scene you could head to Jurien Bay (20 minutes), where there's a jetty with superb potential for just that. Diving and snorkelling fans can also head here to visit the offshore reefs, while anglers should book a spot on a fishing charter. Choosing this latter option comes with an added bonus – the chance to get up close and personal with dolphins, seals and migrating whales.
