Wynd Hill Hideaway: Pitches with views towards the sea

General

  • Quiet family-run site in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • A 20-min walk from Pembrokeshire Coast Path and award-winning beaches
  • A 25-minute drive from Oakwood Theme Park and Folly Farm

Peace and quiet, a break from the car, and countryside rife for exploration… sound like everything you could ask for? Get the answers you want at Wynd Hill Hideaway, a small family-run site within 10 acres of private land in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, 10 minutes’ drive from Tenby in Wales.

Wynd Hill is a top spot for exploring Pembrokeshire car-free: those with a yen for rambling will be well served as the Pembrokeshire Coast Path is roughly 20 minutes’ walk away across fields and along quiet roads, and those in need of a sandy getaway can make their way to Skrinkle Haven beach, just a short distance further along the coastal path.

For something less pastoral – and requiring a little less effort – hail one of the regular buses that stop outside the gates and take a trip to Tenby, Pembroke or somewhere further afield.

Build up your energy for the day with some eggs laid by the on-site chickens, then, when it’s time to reward yourself for a busy day, pile some coals on the barbecue and fire it up: you can grab some grub and other supplies in the nearby village of Manorbier, a 20-minute walk away.

Basic site with good sized level hard standing and grass pitches with electric hook ups. Water sited centrally to the pitches.

Small and quiet site, looked to be 11 pitches for tourers and basic facilities but not available during our stay due to covid restrictions in place.

Good location a short drive from Tenby.

Dog walking field on site with good access to other walks.

    Nothing to dislike.

Easy walk to bus stop for Tenby and Haverfordwest. Nice open views from site.
Due to Covid didn’t see any stafff. Booking and pitch notification was by email or text and worked perfectly. Water tap and electric adjacent to pitch.

    Disliked:

Only one toilet and shower per sex, but strangely it worked fine for us.

The host was really welcoming and suggested a loop walk down to Manobier beach and back via the coastal path. Facilities on site were immaculately clean, shower was really hot and lovely.

    Disliked:

It wasn't an issue for us being the only people there but I can imagine in the summer there could be queues for the single toilet/shower.

Lovely small campsite. Good hardstanding. Facilities were spotlessly clean and really liked the fact there were so many products there for you to clean after yourself/disinfect etc. Water piping hot and plentiful. Lovely views, very informative noticeboards with local info. Contactless check-in very smooth and an excellent idea.

    Disliked:

One toilet and shower fine for now, however may be a little tight if the park were full in the summer etc.
Hardstanding pitch doesn't have a great deal of room at the side if you were looking to pull out your sun canopy etc, just a little tight on space; didn't bother us this time of year.

What a lovely site! As you approach there’s a very clear sign, well kept lawn and white painted walls.

Site is perfect size in our opinion, we much prefer the quieter sites that are family run.

We had a message in the morning advising our pitch location and met Llinos the site owner in the evening. It’s great to met someone with such passion about their “job” and how they have maintained the site and improved it during a global pandemic.

The toilets are perfect for the size of site, modern, fresh and spotlessly clean. Plenty of signage up and supplies to help keep the facilities clean and safe for all.

Will definitely be back next year and will look to stay a few days then in what is a lovely part of Pembrokeshire.

Local attractions

You don’t have to go far to begin exploring Pembrokeshire – start in Manorbier village, five minutes’ drive from Wynd Hill Hideaway, with a wander around Manorbier Castle and gardens and a trip to the award-winning beach the castle overlooks. Manorbier beach is one of Pembrokeshire’s top surfing spots, but do be careful of the strong current.

If Manorbier has whet your appetite for watersports, sail over to Stackpole Quay, 20 minutes from Wynd Hill, for some kayaking and coasteering or simply dive into the water at one of the many nearby beaches for a swim.

Want another taste of history? Explore Pembroke and Carew castles, both within 20 minutes of the site, or venture a little further with a trip to Cilgerran Castle, an hour away. For some more recent history, make your way to the Tudor Merchant’s House in Tenby, 17 minutes’ drive from the site.

At this point, the kids might be tiring of getting dragged between historical sites, but never fear – there’s plenty within easy reach to keep the whole family entertained: meet the animals at Manor Wildlife Park, let your adrenaline spike on the rides at Oakwood Theme Park, or get a bit of both at Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, all within 25 minutes of Wynd Hill.
