  • Secluded pitches in dunes in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park
  • A 10-minute walk from Whitesands Bay and half an hour from St Davids
  • Every pitch has its own picnic table, firepit and fridge shelf
Welcome to a bunch of peaceful pitches in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, where your daily holiday routine could include sea kayaking, coasteering around lagoons or hiking over clifftops and coves. Dunes at Whitesands is the name – that’s because this peaceful place is located in the dunes a 15-minute walk from Whitesands Bay, a fine stretch of white sand that is often visited by super surf and a splendid spot for canoeing, sea kayaking, bodyboarding and the likes. Don’t get it twisted – this isn’t all about beach activities, although they play a big part. The spacious hideaway-style pitches get spectacular sunsets and there’s plenty of peace and quiet for you to kindle a firepit at night, gaze up at the night skies and listen to the pounding surf drifting up from the beach. There’s no feeling of being crammed in, and each and every pitch has its own picnic table, firepit and grill, as well as a dedicated shelf in a communal fridge. St Davids, a small cathedral city, is just half an hour’s walk from the site too. That’s where you’ll locate the closest supermarkets, pubs, cafés and restaurants for all your tasty eats. Back at your small, family-run base on the St David’s Peninsula, there’s more than just sea views and modern, clean facilities. There’s also access to a handful of easy walks that take in the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and its splendid coastal scenery.

Local attractions

With such a fab setting in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, it’s likely you’ll be looking for coves and coastal scenery that have a ‘wow’ factor. Handily, there’s no need to look too far. Blue Lagoon (15 minutes’ drive) is a wild swimming destination that has been formed in a former slate quarry: the turquoise water is often the end destination for coasteering activities, but it’s easy to hike there too. As for beaches, up for your consideration are sandy stretches that are only accessible from the the Pembrokeshire Coast Path such as Traeth Llyfn (20 minutes), which has rockpools upon rockpools, and wild-and-rugged Porthmelgan Beach (half an hour’s walk). Elsewhere, Caerfai Beach (10 minutes' drive) is a rocky little place for light paddles and golden-sand Porthmynawyd beach (15 minutes) can be accessed via a valley hike. Newgale beach (20 minutes) is a busier sort of place – and famed for its big surf too – but if you’re looking for other ways to spend time by the sea, Fishguard (25 minutes) has opportunities for crabbing, paddleboarding, kayak tours and hikes to a clifftop fort.
