Snooty Fox: Foxhenge

General

  • Within walking distance of Pembrokeshire Wake Park
  • Five-minute drive from Bluestone Water Park
  • Pub with home-cooked food, real ale and a log fire

This is a pub site, but you might still want to pitch up here if you have kids… Snooty Fox is within walking distance of Oakwood Theme Park, a five-minute drive from Bluestone Water Park and close to Folly Farm Adventure Park and Zoo, Heatherton World of Activities and Manor Wildlife Park – what a cunning location. It's a top place for watersports too: Pembrokeshire Wake Park is five minutes' stroll away.

This is also good biking country and within walking distance of the rides and strides of Canaston Woods; Coedcanlas is three miles away for those who fancy a peaceful walk along the estuary. Dog-friendly walks are close to hand too: the Snooty Fox owners recommend a stroll into the local woods and down onto the waterfront.

The pub is family run and has a large function room, a stage area and a pool/games room. It serves home-cooked food and real ales – obv the best thing is to settle down with both in front of the log fire…

Snooty Fox doesn't have showers on site but it does have outdoor toilets and washbasins, and toilets in the pub are available to use during opening hours.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

This site has no on-site shower facilities.

Does what is says on the tin - overnight stay on the grass / hardstanding area near the pub. It is a quiet spot. We were one of two vehicles there.

We used the toilet block - clean.

Really lovely pub and friendly team. Food was really good.

Straightforward and plenty of space, although outside a pub it was a family campsite and not noisy as you might have expected, especially on a bank holiday. Good views of Oakwood rollercoasters(!) and the surrounding countryside. Friendly owners and good, basic site with a fun playpark for the kids and horses to look at.

    Disliked:

Would be good to have showers installed at some point, and to keep on top of cleaning/emptying rubbish in the toilets a little more.

The staff we interacted with were lovely and the food was outstanding (can’t beat the onion rings!).

    Disliked:

Camping at The Snooty Fox is all on grass. This is a problem with a motorhome and with the rain we’d had in the weeks up to our visit. When we arrived we realised we’d tear up the field in getting to a pitch and then leaving it and it was agreed we could park up in the car park and move the next day when it would supposedly be drier. After a day out the next day we arrived to find the ground still saturated and no room in the car park - it was choc full of other campervans and motorhomes who also couldn’t get onto the grass. In the end, the staff asked in the restaurant for the owner of a particular car to move it so that we could park up. We spent two nights in the car park with motorhomes less than a metre each side, with no room to put out the awning (that we’d paid extra for). There’s just 2 Ladies toilets with 1 sink, often used for washing dishes, since there was no other place to do it, I believe there’s 1 men’s cubicle with 1 sink, and no disabled toilets for those camping - there’s 2 steps down to the toilets. £120 for 3 nights here in the last week of August, and yet £160 for the next 3 nights at Haven Kiln Park. The difference in facilities was astounding, way more than £13 a night that the price indicates. I was expecting there to be no showering facilities but there definitely needs to be washing up sinks - having to wash hands after using the toilet, when the only sink is being used to clean pots and pans is not ideal.

The owners can’t obviously control the weather, but all those motorhomes had been booked in (though no-one actually checked our booking - on the first night they didn’t seem to expect us and took us at our word that we’d paid; on the second and third night, no-one asked us at all), and they must have known in the few days before that the grass/mud would be an issue. The kids loved the playground but it was covered in mud as other kids enjoyed throwing mud around.

It seemed like camping was a new venture for The Snooty Fox (whether it is or not,
I don’t know, but that’s the impression I got). More thought into serving those camping on wheels, plus washing up facilities on the wall outside the toilet area, would go a long way into improving this site.

From the manager...

Sorry to read your comments and as you said the weather is not something we can control,
We had actually put a block on all camping due to weather conditions but there were a few campers already booked in and wanted to camp regardless of the weather.

We have new shower and wash area facilities going in for next year so hopefully this will ease any problems.
