Ever been to Cwm Gwaun? If not, gwaun. It's in the Pembrokeshire National Park a mile and a half from the fab town of Fishguard and has been called 'one of the great surprises of Pembrokeshire': this is Wales in proper old-school style, and all surrounded by stunning valley and mountain views. (If you're a hiker or biker, you'll want to hike or bike here.)
To stay in these surrounds, settle down at Gwaun Vale Caravan Park, a family-run site at the start of the Cwm Gwaun. It has the fab views you'd expect around these parts, a small play area, a laundry, two dishwashing sinks, toilets and free hot showers.
A small friendly pub serving food is within five minutes' walk. Dogs are welcome and the site has a separate area to exercise them.
Gwaun Vale Caravan Park allows barbecues, so perhaps mull on the image of you sizzling up a thick juicy steak for supper amid the splendid sight of a Cwn Gwaun sunset – gwaun…

Local attractions
The Pembrokeshire Coast National Park is a smashing place for spectacular scenery: head here for hikes or just sit and take in the views. Wildlife is all around too, so look out for cormorants diving into the sea, squawking gulls following the many sailing boats, and porpoises and dolphins in the waters below the cliffs. Grey seal pups will usually be around from September to December.
For walks, follow the Pembrokeshire Coast Path on its stretch from Fishguard to Newport (have some time in Fishguard first) or follow the coast around Strumble Head, also part of the coast path and among the most remote landscape in Pembrokeshire.
Spectacular beach scenery and more wildlife watching are close to hand at the likes of Newport, Cwm Yr Eglwys, Pwllgwaleod Beach, while Whitesands and Newgale Beach are the spots for surfing. Or take the kids to Folly Farm or to Oakwood Theme Park, less than an hour away, or to see the tiny city of St Davids and its cathedral.
Finally, anyone visiting the Cwm Gwaun area can't tick it off their travel list without dropping in to the Dyffryn Arms or Bessie's, run by generations of the same family since 1845. You might then also fancy a trip to Bluestone Brewery in the Preseli Hills…
