Glampio Cowin: View over the pitches

General

  • Rural site on a 70-acre family farm 15 minutes' drive from Carmarthen
  • Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion coastlines within a half-hour drive
  • Campfire areas and gas-fired oven for cooking your own pizzas

Got your compass set on the Carmarthenshire countryside for things like canoeing, coasteering and mountain biking? You’ll be well set to get going from Glampio Cowin, part of a family farm a little over a mile from the small village of Blaenycoed and about 15 minutes’ drive from Carmarthen.

This is a place where you’ll be settling down to soak up the rural views from 70 acres of rural space. Handily, the local area has plenty a place to break your walking shoes in: strolls along local lanes or a hike down to the nearby stream, perhaps. You’ll often spot wildlife around the site, and wake to the sounds of the dawn chorus.

It’s not just the sights of Carmarthenshire that are close by here – Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion are easily accessed too, so this makes a great spot from which to explore West Wales, and its coastline in particular. All sorts of other activities are around in the local area, or you could plan more leisurely days out by the seaside in the likes of Laugharne or Cardigan with a half-hour drive.

On site, facilities include a dedicated toilet for each pitch, shared showers, firepit areas and a pizza oven that’s lit once a week for you to try out your dough-baking skills (there’s dough to buy on site, but you’ll need to bring along whatever you’d like to scatter on top). A convenience store is about 10 minutes’ drive away for supplies, and there's a wider choice of shops and places to eat in Carmarthen or Newcastle Emlyn.

Please note

No cars/motorcycles at the site. All cars must be parked in the designated area.

We had a lovely 1 night stay, our first Glamping experience with a 5 & 2 yr old! The bell tent was great with comfortable beds and linen, we didn’t use the showers but they looked very clean. Was brilliant to have a private composting loo too! Eirian was a great host and we will certainly visit again.

    Disliked:

Would have liked more space between pitches but that’s just because we like more privacy than most. Also the firewood wasn’t dry enough (But maybe we were just late to the pile) and some kindling would have helped but we eventually got a good fire going!

From the manager...

We're glad you enjoyed your stay and will certainly make sure that you have enough dry firewood and kindling next time.

    Everything!!!!
The hosts were welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. The site was lovely, every pitch had it's own toilet and firepit with grill. The washing facilities were clean and larger than most. The kitchen area had a gas stove for you to use (if needed) and they had a pizza oven which you could enjoy for just £2! They cooked everyone pizzas (you just needed to provide your toppings). They also provided logs for the fire pit, and after first batch you pay £5. Also fresh eggs were available for £1.
Out in the countryside you could watch the sky full of stars at night, and the location was great for day trips/sightseeing without having to travel too far.....Honestly, a great site unlike any other. A must visit!!!

Setting, large pitches, own compost toilet, pizza night, space for the children to play, fire pit, picnic bench, showers (big enough for a family and space to keep clothes dry too), washing up sink with hot water, fridge and freezer access, charging points.

    Disliked:

Signage was difficult to see, needs a bigger sign at the entrance and it would have been nice to have the compost toilet emptied every other day. Lovely site and owners though and wouldn’t us off staying again.

Glampio Cowin is a lovely, small, rural, peaceful site. It’s a working farm, so you really feel part of the countryside here. Great location for all the wonderful historical must-sees and beautiful beaches in this area. Our hosts Eirian and Siwan were absolutely delightful. So helpful and welcoming. We couldn’t have asked for more. I am, by no means, an enthusiastic camper. I was dreading it and did this 6-day stay as an adventure for our girls (4 and 6). However, the bell tent was spacious and very comfortable. And the log burner saved us as we had a few wet and chilly nights. The fire pit was our stove and entertainment - the kids found toasting marshmallows and watching the shooting stars very magical. Of course, you need to watch the kids like a hawk around the fire! The composting toilet (you have your own) was fine (this is the bit I thought I would struggle with the most!). The showers were hot and the little cooking area was fab. A definite level-up from pitching your own tent and we recommend a stay here wholeheartedly!

Local attractions

Before you get to all the activities, you might want to stock up on your supplies or cheesy pizza toppings at the Caws Cenarth cheese maker (20 minutes’ drive). For other leisurely little trips, there’s the National Wool Museum (20 minutes), the castle and swimming pool in Newcastle Emlyn (20 minutes) or the National Botanic Garden of Wales (35 minutes).

Picking up the pace is easy here too, and you’ll have a fair choice of what to do. Canoeing, accessed within 25 minutes’ drive of the site? Cardigan (35 minutes) for its castle and all manner of watersports? A swim or sail from Aberporth beach (35 minutes)?

With the Teifi Valley Railway (20 minutes) so close by too, you could rest your feet while chilling out on an old steam locomotive. After all, there might be plenty of walking ahead of you yet, either around Laugharne (35 minutes) to see the castle and Dylan Thomas Boathouse or the National Coracle Centre at Cenarth Falls (25 minutes), where there are little round boats from both Wales and the rest of the world.
