What customers say

Top marks for friendly staff, spotless loos & showers, and great facilities like the bar, shop and cafe. Spacious, flat pitches with cracking views, perfect for families with a decent playground. "Pick your own pitch" is a winner, though it can get a bit crowded with occasional noise. Some minor hiccups with showers and closures, but the bosses sort it. Most keen to come back!

Unpowered grass tent site (solo)

Liked Pleasant location and views.

Disliked Nearby toilets and showers were locked and unusable. Had to walk to another part of the park to find open facilities.
An employee on a four wheeler chose to drive quickly through my campsite rather than using the road. Dangerous for children.

Unpowered grass tent site (two person)

Liked Lovely clean site all round. Great camping field and entertainment was fantastic.

A handful of the members of staff were amazing and friendly.

Food in the tavern bar was really good. We had a Sunday carvery, which wasn’t the greatest, and the chef cutting up the meat was so friendly and welcoming.

Disliked The other half of the staff not so much. Found them to enjoy a chat more than serving customers, some had really bad attitude.

The other lady standing at the carvery station was miserable, and patronising. Trying to tell me how to pour gravy on my dinner and got visibly frustrated when I ignored it.

Unpowered grass tent site (four person)

Liked The campsite had a good family feel to it. Everyone was respectful of each other. The grass was well kept and it was tidy. The views are stunning too.
The kids loved the play park and bouncy castles and the food was delicious from The Tavern and also the takeaway trucks

Unpowered grass trailer tent site

Liked Location, right in the middle of a lot of the villages around the Scottish Borders.

On site pub/restaurant was good

Disliked Facilities a little poor for the price of the site

Other campers very loud. Music into the late night, 11PM noise curfew wasn't followed and staff said there was nothing they could do.

Local attractions

Think of Scotland and you likely think of (among other things) castles, whiskey and golf. The latter is nicely provided on site, but there can never be too much of a good thing... Perfect that swing on a handful of courses within easy reach, including one in the village of St Boswells, 10 minutes’ drive from the site. This part of the country should also satisfy even the most ardent castle fans too (as long as they remember to check opening dates): the 16th-century Ferniehirst is 15 minutes away; Scotland’s largest inhabited Castle, Floors, is 25 minutes from base; and the former love nest of Mary Queen of Scots and the fourth Earl of Bothwell, Hermitage Castle, is reachable in less than an hour. Those keen to stay in the past should have a poke around the ruins of Melrose and Jedburgh abbeys, both within 20 minutes, or stick to statelier affairs at Abbotsford and Monteviot within the same radius. Active types might prefer to opt for wanders around Harestanes (10 minutes) or swing through the trees at Go Ape Peebles and pedal down precipitous slopes at the 7stanes trails at Glentress, both 50 minutes away. Gin quaffers will want to pour themselves over to the Born in the Borders visitor centre 25 minutes from base but, when it comes to the uisge beatha (that’s the water of life, or whisky for all the non-Gaelic speakers), a trip to Edinburgh comes highly recommended for tours of the whisky museum (plus more museums, castles and shops, of course).
