General

  • Quiet park within walking distance of Gatehouse of Fleet
  • In a wildlife haven and a few miles from the coast
  • Free use of sister park with pool, restaurant, gym and solarium

If you're after a quieter vibe at a family holiday park in Dumfries and Galloway, you'll very much like Anwoth Caravan Park.

It's the sister site of Auchenlarie Holiday Park (also on Pitchup.com), in a peaceful wildlife haven setting near the pretty town of Gatehouse of Fleet and in an area that's inspired Scottish bards and artists for centuries. But – what genius – guests at Anwoth can also use the facilities at Auchenlarie, which is about four miles/seven minutes' drive along the A75 (turn right on leaving Anwoth and look for Auchenlarie signposted on the left) and which has a heated indoor pool, restaurant, takeaway and leisure centre with gym and solarium among loads loads more. Entertainment and leisure passes available for daily, short-break or weekly stays: purchase on arrival at Anwoth.

But back to the peace and quiet… Anwoth is in an area where you can sit still and see a lot of wildlife: herds of deer regularly roam the surrounding landscape, you might see otters if you're very very quiet, and you'll likely spy birds of prey and red squirrels among the many local species. This is also serious angling locale, particularly for salmon and trout fishing in the nearby rivers of the Esk, Annan, Nith, Ken, Dee and Cree.

Anwoth has a launderette, washing facilities and a shower and toilet block on site. Restaurants, cafés, bars, craft shops and a well-stocked convenience store are at Gatehouse of Fleet a short walk away; the town has a local bus service too.

Please note

Facilities/activities including use of leisure facilities, round of mini golf, solarium, gym are subject to extra charges payable on arrival.

Single-sex bookings of 4 or more people (couples and immediate family members excepted) are not permitted via Pitchup.com.

We pulled up to this lovely caravan site for a few days before our grandson went back to school. I can say from the heart that from the warm greeting when we arrived to handing the keys back was so chilled it was perfect. The site is quiet but not as far as you feel as if your marooned. It's very clean and neat and tidy with what it seems that every caravan / tent is cared for.
I'm so glad that the internet worked as I think my Grandson would have felt isolated from the world as phone signal wasn't to great, but to us it was perfect as quiet without phones going off.
The caravan we had booked probably needed a bit of tlc on the outside but as soon as we opened the door it was immaculate. Very clean and had everything you needed.
Cold on a morning but as soon as you get up and put the fire on it's ten mins and you put it off.
We had a fab time and we let grandson out to take the dog for a walk and you felt safe for them both.
I can't wait to return as we had such a relaxing time. The village is lovely and we seemed to find the Masonic pub and the food and "sherbets" were worth the walk.
If you wanted more of a holiday park you could use the sister site which if we have grandson again I will remember his swimming gear!!!

    Disliked:

Maybe I was a bit thick as I couldn't see bins to enable me to get rid of the big bag we had to leave in caravan.

From the manager...

What a great review! Thank you so much. Keith and Christine, our wardens, work extremely hard to maintain the quality of the park and always look forward to welcoming guests.

Local attractions

We're quite the fans of Dumfries and Galloway at Pitchup.com, for many many reasons including its wildlife and birdwatching, its lush landscape and the evidence of its rich history, archaeology and art in its castles, towers, abbeys, earthworks and standing stones. And did you know that JM Barrie had the idea for Peter Pan while in Dumfries – and that nearby Sanquhar has the oldest post office in Scotland…?

Paul, Neil and Bob (the new generation of Swalwells to own Amwoth Caravan Park) also suggest a look at Whithorn, on the southern tip of the Machars peninsula and the seat of Christianity in Scotland, and at Lochmaben as the birthplace of Robert the Bruce. And if you like reading Rabbie, you might also like to see Dumfries, home and resting place for famed Scottish poet Robert Burns.

Ecclefechan, the birth town of Thomas Carlyle, is also within reach – do be sure to have an Ecclefechan butter tart while you're there.
