Dewflock Farm: Looking south towards the Dorset Ridgeway

General

  • Small family-run site on a farm five minutes' drive from Dorchester
  • Fully-equipped field kitchen; bacon rolls delivered every morning
  • Mini Landrovers for kids to drive and daily lamb feeding in season

Looking for your fix of outdoor life with both a peaceful vibe and a good stack of facilities? Dewflock Farm is a working farm where families can have a safe, scenic setting from which to explore the Dorset countryside or zip down to the Jurassic Coast – or just stick around to watch the farm animals going about their business.

This is a great base for visitors wanting to explore Dorset, as bus stops and bike routes are within a 10-minute walk. The shops, restaurants, bars, cinemas and museums of county town Dorchester are a five-minute drive away, and the splendid sands of Weymouth can be reached in about 15 minutes. Some other lovely beaches, such as Ringstead and Lulworth, are also within easy reach and worth exploring – the site team will happily point you in the right direction.

There are plenty of opportunities for quality family time here – active types can let off steam at the football posts, table tennis or table football, or sign up for 4x4 driving experiences and Segway rides (offered for a fee). Nippers keen to have a go? Mini Landrovers are available for four- to 10-year-olds. For quieter (or damp) hours, there’s a cosy converted pig barn with wifi access, TV and video.

The nearest supermarket is a two-minute drive away, but there's food even closer to hand too – the owners produce their own organic meat, which you can order to be delivered to your accommodation for a particularly fine dinner cooked up on your barbecue or in the field kitchen, where there's a communal eating area. No need to make such efforts in the morning though – the team make their way around the site handing out bacon sandwiches for guests to eat in comfort.

As this is a working farm with livestock, unfortunately dogs can't be permitted on site.

The owners and people who worked here were so lovely and made us feel very very welcome. Very real humans who were down to earth and helpful even though they were very busy.
We stayed in Ted the Shepherds hut. Great spot, lovely hut. Fire pit bbq every night. Waking up in such a beautiful setting was magical and exciting for my son and I. Always there to help us. Bacon or egg roll delivered every morning. Excellent value for money. My son loved it(9yrs old) and made friends with a lovely boy called Rufus(another hut named after him). Brilliant and restfull and magical.
