Far View: Field around the tent

General

  • Peaceful farm site on Cornwall's Lizard Peninsula
  • Less than a mile from Mullion Cove and eight miles from Helston
  • A 15-minute walk to pubs, a chocolate factory and the village shop

What makes the Lizard Peninsula tick? Some point to its location as the most south-westerly point in Britain. For others, it's the vibrant local rocks (dark green in colour, veined with white and red). Whatever brings you here, the spectacular sunsets, comely coves and rural vistas certainly don't hurt…

Located on the outskirts of Mullion, Far View is true to its name: the vistas are all about the greenery that stretches out for miles around. Fancy mixing up coast and country? With Mullion Cove under a mile away from base, this spot is handily placed for easy access to both.

Guests have five acres of Cornish meadow to pitch up in, with essentials such as toilets and showers taken care of on site. Human visitors share Far View with a number of permanent guests, including miniature horses, donkeys and goats. Dogs are welcome, but please bear in mind the presence of furry live-in residents if you bring them along.

An 15-minute stroll takes guests up to Mullion village centre, which has two pubs, a village shop, a chippy and (this being Kernow) a pasty shop. There's also a chocolate factory that can be reached within 10 minutes on foot: no oompa-loompas here, but there's plenty of scope to make friends with the in-house team of llamas.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Owing to government regulations, groups of 6 or more people are not permitted.

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Discount cards and gift vouchers cannot be applied to bookings made via Pitchup.com.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Minimum spacing of 5 metres between pitches.

Fantastic stay!! Jane was so so lovely and bought us plenty of wood to burn for our 3 night stay. She also took us to meet her new puppies on the farm! It’s completely out of the way, peaceful and the views from our camp site were delightful. Plenty of room and lovely to wake to the pony’s right near to our pitch. Can’t wait to come back! Nearby shops/village, lovely. Bathrooms were always free when needing to use! Can’t comment on the showers as we don’t tend to use them when we go camping, all well cleaned/new facilities though. All round a great stay.

Owner was amazing! She came round with ice packs, wood for the fire and asked if we needed phones charging. The bell tent also has thick blankets which were perfect for sitting outside in the evening. Chairs were also provided! You could also see sunset from the campsite and the field wasn't busy at all. The ponies are super cute too.

The field was spacious, was able to stay well outside of two meters of anyone. Location was amazing, not a happening place but more than enough to see and do for a few days of camping in lovely weather. Owners were lovely and would drive round the campsite to check in with everyone making sure that we all had what we needed.

    Disliked:

only one shower (was fine though as campsite wasn't busy and so never had to wait) but was a little bit grubby but still not a massive problem for me.

We managed to pitch with a beautiful view from our tent door and the ponies and donkey were right behind us which our children loved to pet regularly throughout our stay.
    Excellent social distancing of pitches.
Wide open field safe for the children to run and play in.

Short walk to a pebbly beach and also to see the llamas at the chocolate factory - lovely chocolate!

Only one shower on site but we never had to wait to use it during the 6 nights we were there.

Owners visited daily to see if we needed anything at all which was lovely.

    Disliked:

Would have liked more recycling facilities but I am not sure on the Cornwall recycling system so this may have a lot to do with it.

Local attractions

Mullion (15 minutes' walk) has activities such as swimming, canoeing, coasteering and surfing, and it's also possible to arrange horseback jaunts along the beach here. The well-signposted South West Coast path also skirts the village, and there's a swish spa in town for treatments should you overdo the exercise.

To the north, there are plenty of activities in and around Helston (20 minutes' drive). Find out about local customs at the Museum of Cornish Life, or head a few minutes out of town to Flambards Theme Park (20 minutes from base) for traditional fairground attractions and rollercoaster rides that should please those seeking sky-high thrills. A bus handily gets you from Far View to the theme park in about half an hour if you want to give the car a break.

To the east, green-fingered guests should make tracks to Trebah Garden (35 minutes), a 26-acre subtropical oasis with spectacular coastal backdrops. A little further east, Falmouth (40 minutes) has plenty to see and do as well, including the National Maritime Museum Cornwall and Pendennis Castle, built by Henry VIII.

Must see

  • Flambards (8.3 kilometres)
  • National Seal Sanctuary (9.1 kilometres)
  • Trebah Garden (13.4 kilometres)

National Trust

  • Penrose Estate: Gunwalloe and Loe Pool (8.2 kilometres)
