Plenty of space to play

General

  • Quiet site with excellent views and good local walks
  • Pub/restaurant, village shop and play park within walking distance
  • A mile and a half from Perranporth beach

This peaceful Perranporth site is in properly prime position: it's set in spectacular Cornish countryside with first-rate views, and has easy access to Newquay and Truro as well as Perranporth. The nearest beach is a mere mile and a half away, and there's a pub/restaurant and shop in Goonhavern, half a mile away along a lovely leafy bridleway (there's also a play park and football field up here for kids who need a bit of a run about).

Reen Cross Campsite is a family-friendly park, welcoming families and couples only (and dogs, as long as they're well-behaved types and are kept on leads at all times while on site, ta). Pitches are large and well spaced out, on a flat camping field of around three acres, so there's plenty of room for the kids – and grownups – to play.

Among the amenities are chemical disposal and facilities for ice pack freezing; new shower, toilet and laundry/washing-up facilities were added in 2017. Barbecues are allowed if raised off the ground.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

Guests are advised to bring a good quality torch with them as parts of the site are unlit.

The play area is closed due to restrictions imposed by the coronavirus outbreak.

At least one of the party members must be aged 18 or over.

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

Lovely warm welcome from the site managers, explaining all of the rules (re covid) in a relaxed friendly manner. The site and facilities were kept very clean and it was really peaceful away from all of the crowds. Enjoyable walk along a bridleway down into Perranporth. Took approx 35/40 minutes. Would definitely stay there again.

We were greeted by Sandy who was very welcoming with a big smile and professional manner - Expecially with COVID, and both were friendly and took time to have a chat.

Lovely little site we enjoyed our stay, it was very quiet and all the other guests were very quiet and respectful. We stayed a week so had a few neighbor's over the week who were only 2-3 night stays but this wasn't a problem for us as they seemed to arrive when we were out and it was minimal impact on us. It was nice to see so many tents/ campervans to view :-)

    Disliked:

I agree with another review about when booking it didn't state that the toilets/showers were closed to Caravanner's and only open to campers & camper people, It doesn't say on the listing on Pitchup but then had it on the booking email confirmation (which is a bit late once you have booked) however this isn't a judgement of the camp site itself (probably just a mix up with Pitchup and these times we are living in) just an observation that I noticed also. It wasn't a problem for us and we were happy to accept this as our caravan facilities are good enough for us to use and accept how hard it is at the moment due to COVID. Other than this which is just an FYI to people booking to look out for, WE DIDN'T DISLIKE ANYYTHING!!

Thank you both for a lovely stay xx

Customer service, very friendly staff and great location (very quiet and spacious so not so many people around us)

    Disliked:

Cleanliness of the place was poor as smell in the living room was terrible, probably due to floors and sofas being quite old and used. Few times, at couple of evenings whole electricity was going on and off.

    Quiet....

    Disliked:

To be advised when we arrived that the Toilet Block and Showers were out of bounds to us, as we had our own facilities, but were open to people who didn't have their own facilities.

Wouldn't have minded if we had known beforehand but this was not advised. When we booked, the PitchUp booking said made reference to the Children's playground being closed - nothing about Toilet Block and showers. I did check once we arrived and still no mention of Toilet Block......

The caravan was spotless, had everything we could need inside, shower nice and large something we’ve had issues in other statics.

    Disliked:

The steps up to the van could do with replacing, and lack of table and chairs outside nowhere outside to dine or simply relax. However this may have been due to Covid restrictions.

Local attractions

The beaches at Perranporth are less than two miles from Reen Cross Campsite and, along with Newquay, are top foamy spots for north Cornwall surfing and kitesurfing. Drop into the tourist office to get discount vouchers for the local surf schools if you'd like to learn how to board.

Perranporth is also home to the gigs and pints of The Watering Hole, the only UK pub to be set right on the sands, and like all the seaside towns around Cornwall has easy access to the South West Coast Path, the spectacular 630-mile trail running from Minehead in Somerset along the Cornwall and Devon coasts down to Poole Harbour in Dorset.

From Perranporth, hike to Newquay in one direction or to St Agnes or Portreath in the other; all places have provisions for pitstops for traversing further should you and your feet wish.

Highly viewsome teeing off at Perranporth Golf Club is about a mile away; horse riding stables within the same distance, and a play park and football field are close to the site.

Within easy driving distance are days out at Healeys Cornish Cyder Farm, Newquay's Holywell Bay Fun Park, the Lappa Valley Steam Railway, and DairyLand Farmworld, the award-winning attraction near Newquay.
