Cosy cocoon with two single camping beds

General

  • Wildlife haven with easy access to London
  • Close to whitewater rafting, bike and walking paths
  • London travel cards available to buy

In a wildlife haven among the traffic-free trails of the 1,000-acre River Lee Country Park – and all only 40 minutes by train from central London: have a stay at Greater London's Lee Valley Campsite, Sewardstone to escape the city for a weekend, or to use the site as a nifty rural base for getting into the urban for day trips. (Either way, do take quite a bit of time to get around the country park for ambling, pedalling and wildlife watching among its rare resident species).

Lee Valley Campsite has a play area, a shop selling essentials and one-day travel cards for London, a launderette with ironing facilities, and heated showers and toilet blocks. Dogs are welcome.

The site also has free wifi – just the ticket when researching which museum or shopping area to get to in London first...?

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

No bachelor/bachelorette parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

The grocery shop is open between 01/03 and 31/01.

Excellently friendly and helpful staff. They helped us with all our enquiries and even lent us some equipment we had forgotten.

The campsite is spacious and well equipped, with good hot showers and cute little pods that serve well to find a bit of shelter when the weather is dicey.

The surrounding areas are also brilliant for hikes and walks.

We had a really lovely time and so close to London, we'll definitely be back!

    The weather.

    Disliked:

The receptionist was unhelpful and rude. As I walked in she screamed at me (in the voice of a frustrated fishwife) at full volume, "MASK!" I had inadvertently gone to enter the reception area without my mask after a long drive and was appalled at her method of reminder. This was after receiving a call earlier in the day to advise my booking had only just been authorised, despite making it several weeks ago, and she would 'struggle' to fit me in. In the morning I would estimate there were at least a dozen empty pitches around my motorhome so I'm bamboozled by the alleged lack of space. The shower block resembled a 1960s barrack room and the water was freezing. By far the most disappointing site we visited throughout the trip, out of 5 in total.

    Proximity to London

    Disliked:

Facilities not very clean, someone had defaecated in one of the ladies showers. I reported it to the office they said yes we know the cleaner will get to it when she’s finished the other block. Surely the shower should have been closed. It was most disgusting to see this. Also I had booked a fully serviced pitch and was put on a pitch without adjacent water or drainage. On reflection I should have told the office but we had already sited the caravan and could not be bothered to move it.

Great value for money. The site backed on to Lee Valley Park which was perfect for long walks. The staff were friendly and helpful (thank you Debbie). The site was easily accessible via public transport from Walthamstow Central. The toilet/shower facilities were clean. There was a kettle and electric heater provided in the cocoon. There was a nice pub nearby (The Plough) where we went for dinner!

    Disliked:

The cocoons are close to the road and bus stop, so you can hear traffic. If we stayed again we‘d book one of the four-person cabins instead of the cocoon as they’re in a better site location near to the park and away from the road. Also, it’s not really an issue but worth noting that you had to bring your own bedding for the cocoon.
