  • Touring pitches on a small farm-style site in rural Cheshire
  • On the edge of the Peak District, a 10-minute drive from Leek
  • Half an hour from Buxton, Stoke-on-Trent and Alton Towers

Scouring the web for a serene space to spend a few nights away in your caravan or motorhome? Hightail it to Heaton House Farm for a stint in stunning countryside on the edge of the Peak District National Park. This site is set amid 165 acres of grounds with views across the lovely landscapes of Staffordshire, Cheshire and Derbyshire from grass pitches that have been reinforced with strong subterranean mesh so they'll be nice and sturdy under your wheels.

There’s much to do around this gorgeous getaway spot in Rushton Spencer, including taking walks by Rudyard Lake (10 minutes’ drive) and across the rocky ridge of The Roaches (20 minutes).

For an adrenaline rush, head to Alton Towers theme park (half an hour) or stay closer by at the Madrenaline Activity Centre (15 minutes’ walk) for archery, skybowing, axe throwing, Segway racing and – perhaps the highlight – rolling down a hill in a sphere.

The park is also half an hour’s drive from Buxton to the north and Stoke-on-Trent to the south. Pubs and restaurants aplenty are a cinch to source for eats within a six-mile radius, including in the market town of Leek (10 minutes).

Toilets and showers are available on request and water and there are Elsan points for use.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 31 Dec 2020.

Spacious pitches, clean facilities, lovely quiet and peaceful area. Staff kept in touch with updates throughout regarding Covid updates which was reassuring.

    Disliked:

Pitches are grass over the top of a mesh which had sunk a bit (due to the time of year and heavy rainfall), so the pitches and field were quite boggy and tricky to reverse a caravan onto. Certainly not the end of the world, it just required a bit of manual manoeuvring rather than being able to drive the caravan into the spot.

From the manager...

What a lovely review Alice, thank you! So pleased you enjoyed the area, and the COVID updates were appreciated. Please come and stay again, Sarah

Quite location, open views of countryside. Farm and wildlife, hearing the sound of owls in the evening and seeing many during our day time drive.
Local country park Teggs Nose, good views from relatively easy hill climb. Danebrige close by for streams and wood walk.

    Disliked:

Would have liked a washing up facility.

Good prices with friendly and helpful staff made our stay very enjoyable.
The toilets and showers were very clean and modern and you don't have to pay extra for them.
The pitches were a decent size.
They manage the 'local' pub - The Royal Oak where the food was also excellent. One of the staff even drove us back up to the site afterwards which was much appreciated.

Hi Alex, what a lovely review - thank you! It's great to hear you found our prices good value, and all the facilities were included in the price. Thanks for supporting our new venture, 'The Royal Oak, Rushton' which we hope to work well with having the campsite so close! Thanks, Sarah

Local attractions

When pottering around the Peak District, don’t miss the postcard-pretty villages. Leek (10 minutes’ drive) is a first-rate spot to kick off explores – as its nickname 'Queen of the Staffordshire Moorlands' suggests. Wander along the cobbled market square and scan the buildings for detailing from the Arts and Crafts design era.

When it’s time to fuel up on food, peruse the menus at independent pubs and restaurants or grab grub to go from one of the stalls in the restored Victorian Butter Market. Buxton (30 minutes) is another fine place for foodies and also appeals to history buffs with its genteel Georgian spa town architecture.

Craving the countryside? Get your fix at the Victorian garden in the National Trust’s Biddulph Grange Country Park (15 minutes). Planted with horticultural specimens from all around the world, it’s a fascinating spot for a stroll.

For nature that’s a little less manicured, dawdle across the Dovedale stepping stones in a valley that leads up to Thorpe Cloud hill (40 minutes’ drive). After taking in the views across the bumpy landscape, trot off for 20 minutes over to Ilam, a tiny village with a tiptop country estate for ambles beside the clear river in 158 acres of parkland before rounding off the trip with treats at the tearoom.

Must see
