Norfolk Coast B&B, Cottages and Camping: Surrounding fields

General

  • Wildlife haven among open fields: walk to the beach in five minutes
  • Basic and peaceful site just behind the coast path
  • Barbecues and campfires both allowed: shop a minute's walk away

The splendid beach near Norfolk Coast B&B, Cottages and Camping is the only eastern beach in Britain facing west. (Do keep up: the setting is in East Anglia, thus east, but the beach is Heacham, facing west.)

And what does this mean apart from just the opportunity to bamboozle the kids? Spectacular sunrises and sunsets, that's what, as well as a setting just five minutes from these dog-friendly sands and with easy access to the beaches, birdwatching, boating and rambles of the Wash and west Norfolk's coast.

Norfolk Coast B&B, Cottages and Camping is a few minutes' drive from Heacham (or 10 minutes via the Coasthopper bus), in a peaceful wildlife haven surrounded by open fields. It's three miles from here to Snettisham, five to Hunstanton and 10 miles to Thornham, all with dog-friendly beaches and walks aplenty, or you could feel regal for the day with a trip to Sandringham – and its woodland walking paths – within 15 minutes' drive.

The site has a good selection of amenities including three toilet cubicles (separate ladies' and gents'), two unisex showers and a washroom space, as well as a washing-up area and a freshwater tap/brown water and chemical waste disposal point for guests' use. Charging facilities are available for a small extra charge. Please note there are farm tracks on site (not paved roads) and no play area, although the beach is half a mile away.

Barbecues and campfires are both allowed; a local shop a minute's walk away has most supplies you should need.

Please note

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, customers can amend their dates with the campsite/holiday park free of charge for all stays up to, and including, 31 Dec 2021.

The shower facilities are closed until 17 May 2021. Guests will need to use their own facilities.

Location, cleanliness of toilets, firepit acceptance.

    Disliked:

Ground condition could be better (less bumpy) with marked out pitches.

From the manager...

Thank you Wayne for your great review, being able to have a fire by your pitch is one of the many reasons please like to stay with us :) and being so close to the beach! Our toilets are newly built and always kept to a high standard, thanks for noticing!
We are sorry that your pitch was a bit bumpy, being on the farm with marshland this can be an issue and we are always maintaining the site and ironing our bumps where we can! Our pitches are marked out, but in a way that they can accommodate different size vehicles, and when it;'s quite like now we are happy for people to pitch up where they like :)

Electric didn’t work for the first few Hours. Campsite not finished like it looked on pictures

From the manager...

Thank you for your view, the campsite itself is well maintained, we are currently doing some work on our self-catering accommodation, this is well away from the campsite and shouldn't cause any inconvenience. Our toilet and shower facilities are brand new and available to use. We are sorry that your electricity was off for a few hours, this could have been due to the adverse weather we had over the bank holiday.
We are very close to the beach and have a nice quiet site that we are always improving on

Terrible site rude owner. Over priced for what is just a rough patch in a field with no electric hook up. We did not stay and the owner was not willing to help the situation

From the manager...

Thank you Nikki for your review, I am sorry that your stay here with us was not to your liking. Our grass pitches are very level and of course are in a field as most pitches are. We have electric hook-ups available but like most other sites we do charge extra for this service.
We are only 3 minutes walk from the beautiful North Norfolk Coast Line, our site is unique in that sense and we try to give a back-to-nature camping experience, we are surrounded by lovely marshland ad our site is very quiet and peaceful.

Over priced & cramped but close to a beach22/09/2020

  • Liked:

Cute dog shower, clean compost toilets, minutes from beach, quick email response, short walk to beach

    Disliked:

Camping Site, building works, exposed location opposite huge and busy caravan site and sunken overlooked by a busy road. Covid safety as the site was too cramped. Rudeness of owner in person. Well over-priced. I didn’t stay as it was not my kind of place.

From the manager...

We're glad you found several positives about our site - our location of a 2-minutes walk from the beach is a key factor. The site is bordered by two sea banks of approximately 10 foot high which act as a windbreak and also screen the site from the road. We're sorry you found several negatives including the buildings which will be developed in our low season from October onwards. These buildings are not part of the campsite and so do not impact on it. sadly the equivalent of Ground Force are not currently available - which wish they were as that would be fantastic. The road is not busy as it only leads to the small car parks next to the beach and there are double yellow lines along the road which deter parking.
We're sorry if you found our warden direct in his response and absolutely refute your assertion that covid safety is not our priority. We do, however, hope that you enjoyed some time on the Norfolk coast as it is a beautiful place.

Local attractions

Twitchers rejoice, for there's birdwatching galore around here. Make for the RSPB reserve in Snettisham for flocks of birds around the Wash, or for RSPB Titchwell Marsh (20 minutes) to see avocets, marsh harriers and pink-footed geese around its marshlands, reedbeds and freshwater lagoons. Titchwell has a wide sandy beach to investigate too, where scenery seekers can snap far-reaching views across the Wash.

Boating and watersports are easily accessed just down the coast at Hunstanton. The town's also home to the rides of Rainbow Park fairground, and the Sea Life Sanctuary next door where you and curious kids can see seals, penguins, otters and other watery species.

Other recommended options include Norfolk Lavender, five minutes' drive away at Caley Mill, and the 12th-century ruins of Castle Rising (15 minutes), one of the biggest and best preserved keeps in England.
