Five-metre bell tent on a wooden deck

General

  • Quiet self-contained glamping site on a farm in Ettington
  • A 15-minute drive from Stratford-upon-Avon
  • Private space with barbecue, hammock, and indoor kitchen and bathroom

A secluded, self-contained glamping area on a small farm – Rookery Retreat is a place for those who hanker after a peaceful slice of rural life.

There’s no need to cart heaps of kit with you, for all is set up ready and waiting at your temporary domain, on the edge of a working cattle farm and livery in the village of Ettington. From here it’s a short leisurely stroll to the local pub and shop (where you can pick up daily supplies of freshly baked bread and other goodies) or to nearby walking trails. If you’d like to venture further afield, Stratford-upon-Avon is 15 minutes away, and the site is less than half an hour from the Cotswolds.

Accommodation is in a spacious bell tent kitted out with a kingsize bed, comfy chairs and a woodburning stove. A few steps away is the woodman’s hut with all amenities: a small kitchen and a bathroom with electric shower and compost toilet.

All this is surrounded by your own personal outdoor area, with a gas barbecue, chiminea and a selection of spots in which to relax. (Which to go for first? The deckchairs, the bench or the hammock – oh, the dilemma.) It’s all fenced off too, so once the gate is closed any dogs you’ve brought along for the ride are welcome to dash about freely.

Great set up on a horse farm. Got to try riding! We were lucky with the dry weather and enjoyed bbq and fire pit. Tent itself was spacious and warm enough.

    Disliked:

The stove in the tent would blow smoke in every time you opened the door to add wood.

Everything is there that you need for a short stay, we took a lot of stuff we thought we would need and it was already there.
Flapjacks and biscuits as we well as treats for our dog were there when we arrived.
The owner came and said hello and said if there was anything we needed to just say, which was very nice.
If you need a couple of days out of the way to relax and wind down and forget the usual day to day stuff I recommend a stay here as you are left alone just to enjoy the surroundings of the countryside.

We had a lovely stay at the Rookery Retreat and thoroughly enjoyed the peaceful and beautiful setting on Rookery Farm. The hosts have thought of everything that you might need and we were able to enjoy cooking each day on the bbq as well as sleeping very soundly in the super comfy bed. They have also taken measures to make sure that their guests are safe by providing hand sanitiser and steam cleaning everything between stays. The location is very easy to reach by car and there are plenty of places to visit nearby, either on foot or by car off exploring Stratford upon Avon and Leamington Spa. We will definitely be visiting again when we have the chance as it really was a wonderful haven to get away from it all.
