Rural Relaxing: Bell tents available

General

  • Peaceful rural location on the edge of Medbourne
  • Riverside pub and café nearby serving meals
  • Barbecue, garden furniture and coffee hut on site

If you're pitching up here, it's fairly certain you're in the market for some countryside rest and relaxation? Sorted: Rural Relaxing is in the village of Medbourne in the Welland Valley, a setting that the friendly team reckon is one of Britain's best-kept secret spots. And it has a pub nearby – result.

As its name might hint, this is a firmly rural site: the owners have taken care not to make it look commercialised in any way so that guests can settle down and soak up Leicestershire countryside and make themselves at home with the barbecue and comfy garden furniture…

The owners of this small family-run site have also added a welcome cabin with lots of lovely touches including books, outdoor game kit, and plenty of local info. It's also the place to source snacks and soft drinks (just help yourself to what you fancy and pop a few coins in the honesty box). Elsewhere on site, the decked Potting Shed coffee hut serves hot drinks, pastries and other treats on Saturday and Sunday mornings, and there's an open-air social area with pallet-style seating and a firepit (free to use, with logs available to buy on site).

And that pub? It's a stunner for real ales and gourmet food by the riverside, in a setting welcoming both kids and dogs. The café behind the pub is open daily for breakfast, lunch and coffees.

The village shop and post office at Medbourne can sort some supplies; elsewhere, you'll find most of what you need in the nearby historic towns of Market Harborough, Uppingham, Stamford and Oakham.

Rural Relaxing's amenities include a ladies' toilet and shower, plus a separate one for the gents.

Please note

Dogs are not allowed in the on-site accommodations.

Commercial vehicles (vehicles used for work-related purposes, carrying goods or fare-paying passengers) and sign-written vehicles are not permitted on site.

Twin axle vehicles are not permitted on site.

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

Guests must bring their own duvets, pillows, sheets and towels when staying in rental accommodation. You will not be allowed to stay if you do not bring these items.

At least one of the party members must be aged 20 or over.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act (i.e. Pit Bull Terrier, Japanese Tosa, Dogo Argentino, and Fila Brasileiro).

Secure site, flat, friendly, great amenities. The bar area was closed due to Covid. Lots of nice little touches makes a difference .. Our 7 yo boy loved it there even though there isn’t much for children on site. He loved sitting by the campfire. The pub/cafe is walking distance - 10 min stroll alone the river. Marker Harborough is 15 min drive - such a beautiful town with lots of shops and cafes. Caroline (owner) was very friendly. We haven’t visited many camping sites yet but this one is definitely our favourite.

    Disliked:

This didn’t affect our stay just thought it might be useful for someone.. No playground and no ball games allowed. Cold washing up not pleasant in the winter.. would be great to have a washing up sink with warm water.

From the manager...

Thank you for your lovely review and for taking the time to write your comments.

Your comments on the negative side are sadly entirely due to Covid we have had to restrict ball games and working to Government guidelines, our washing up room is closed due to reducing cross contamination, usually there is a hot water sink for guests to use, sadly it's filling a kettle at the moment to get the hot water for washing up.
Hope very much to welcome you again.

Quite, clean and secure with excellent facilities. The pitches are nice and even and all amenities were close by. Although the weather was poor it was nice to be under canvas and sit and cook round a campfire. Will be returning as soon as possible.

    Disliked:

Just a very small thing but it would have been great to have a wooded area to give it that 'out in the wildernesses' feel.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and I am delighted you enjoyed your stay. Thank you for your 10/10 rating.

Sadly planting more trees is something is restricted as the area is so tiny and any additional spacing for planing will impact the pitches in terms of sizes & spacing but yes a lovely idea if we had a bit more space!

Look forward to welcoming you again very soon.

Great pitch location with nice high hedgerows that helped to protect us from the autumnal elements. Superb covid improvements in place. Handmade washing up stands per pitch made life so much easier.
    Lovely clean toilets etc
The covered dining area looked super comfy and chic and although closed for our stay it was for the right reasons to ensure social distancing being adhered to.
Surrounding area tranquil, peaceful and beautiful scenery.

Nice size of site, quiet and clean. Firepits & firewood were great and coffees etc. Available weekend mornings.

    Disliked:

Could do with some additional toilet and shower facilities for the size of the site.

From the manager...

Thank you for your review, I was delighted to read you enjoyed your stay & especially the great coffees!!! Appreciate your feedback on this, the girls work really hard to give a good service and thank you for the compliments.

As mentioned in earlier review responses, we are installing additional loos over the winter (2020), as with Covid "one in one out" restrictions they were under pressure and we realise the benefits of additional installations will bring and
so a decision has been made to install additional loos for 2021.

Look forward to welcoming you again!

The site was a very nice site had security lock on the front gate. The staff who did the breakfast cafe where really nice and where constantly cleaning. The facilities are the nicest I have seen on a site and the shower is really good and a nice way to start the day. Site was quiet after 11. The food and drinks and honesty box is a fab idea and worked well when you wanted a cold drink or ice cream for the kids. Washing up sinks at every pitch was nice.

    Disliked:

Couple of diverts that collected water but this is a tiny tiny issue and just need filling. Again due to covid no access to a freezer for ice packs. Maybe a freezer with a section for each pitch might work. These issues are all minor and are the only little things I could see

From the manager...

Thank you for your review and for the positive feedback you have given about many aspects of your stay and I am delighted you will visit again. Regarding the freezer, this was forced because of Covid - as our pre-stay details revealed, we had to close our communal area for fridges and freezers because of cross contamination - a freak year but hope they will return in 2021.

Hope to welcome you again.
