General
- Family-run caravan park near Blakeney in the Royal Forest of Dean
- Within a half-hour drive of Puzzlewood and the River Wye
- Easy access to the A48 for days out and cross-country travel
It’s gorgeous green views galore for those staying at Valley View Park, a family-run caravan park in the Royal Forest of Dean. Fields, forests and hills are all around, giving guests not only a rather fine backdrop for alfresco meals but also easy access to miles of trails for bike rides and rural rambles.
If you’re one of those folks that likes your rural retreat to come with a side order of useful amenities, you’ll be chuffed to note that the handy location just off the A48 means you can nip over to the nearby villages of Newnham or Blakeney in a few minutes when your day’s exertions have left you in need of a pint, a curry or a bag of chips.
Travel further along that road and you’ll encounter a whole heap more tiptop days out – canoe trips, heritage railway rides and Puzzlewood’s magic-themed trails are all within a half-hour drive, as is the cathedral city of Gloucester.
On site is geared towards the whims of those whose tastes lie in life’s simpler pleasures (who needs discos and video games when you’ve got those views to gawp at while sizzling a sausage on the barbie, eh?) A smart modern bathroom block houses toilets, showers and accessible facilities, and there’s a launderette for tarting up your togs.

Local attractions
Boots and bikes at the ready – one could easily spend many a day roaming the trails of the Royal Forest of Dean. A popular pick is the four-mile art-meets-nature sculpture trail 20 minutes from the park; those with rather more time on their hands might like to pick sections of the Wye Valley Walk or the Gloucestershire Way long-distance trails.
For a close-up view of the forest’s trees, zip through the canopy at Go Ape!, 10 minutes away, or venture along the eerie woodland paths at Puzzlewood (20 minutes). Prefer to take in the views in comfort? Head to the Wye Valley Railway, 20 minutes away, for a scenic heritage train ride.
If you’re keen to see what lies beneath, take an underground tour at Clearwell Caves, 20 minutes away; those who prefer to stay out in the daylight may like instead to join a canoe trip from Ross-on-Wye or take a trot around Gloucester’s cathedral and Jet Age Museum.
