If you’re longing for open spaces, dramatic views and catering on tap in Calabrian countryside, make a beeline for Bici e More, five minutes’ drive from the historic village of Serra San Bruna in the Serre Regional Natural Park. You’ll have bags of room on spacious sand and gravel pitches, handsome vistas over the surrounding Serre plateau and tasty regional dishes on hand in the Vista Indaco – cucina&poesia restaurant. The site is also very well set up for outdoor activities with family and friends. There’s a small plunge pool for the summer months, in which you can lie back and soak up the views, and an extensive playground with slides, swings and climbing frames. If you’re keen to get out and about in the natural park, there are plenty of hiking trails from the pitches (dogs are welcome to join in the fun too) and you can also rent mountain bikes – or take the hard work out of cycling and hire an e-bike. When you’re content just to chill on site, there are three picnic areas with barbecues; other handy amenities include showers, a laundry service and recycling. The site is also open for winter camping, when you can often expect sprinkling of snow.

Lokale seværdigheder

A wild landscape of beech forests, waterfalls and mountains, Serre Regional Natural Park (direct from the site) is a splendid region to explore on foot or by bike; a favourite is the hike up to Cascata di Marmarico (50 minutes’ drive to the car park) to see the multiple drops of the waterfall. You can also join organised guided tours of historic villages like cobbled Mongiana (15 minutes), with its relics of former ironworks and charcoal kilns. If you’re into history, be sure to take in the Carthusian monastery of Certosa di Serra San Bruno in Serra San Bruno (10 minutes) – you can also walk there along the Camino di San Bruno pilgrimage route. The monastery itself is not open to the public, but you can visit the church, museum and walled water gardens. The site owners can also organise a host of seasonal activities in the local area for you, from grape harvesting, pressing, and processing workshops to jam-making and chestnut harvesting.
