Static caravan parks in west Wales: comfy coastal stays
It’s renowned for its spectacular coastline, its ancient castles, its hills and mountains, its peaceful vibe… and while it’s a myth that it rains all the time around these parts, it must be noted that it can be a bit damp on occasion (a healthy dose of soft rain’s what makes the scenery so green, you see…)
With all that in mind, it’s no wonder that static caravans are such a popular pick for hols in west Wales. Stay in a static caravan at a West Wales holiday park and you can settle in comfort for long enough to explore all* the many fab things this area has to offer with the guarantee of a warm dry place to retreat to at the end of the day (*well, maybe not all… you’d need really rather a long time for that…)
Intrigued? Read on for the lowdown on why static caravan holidays in west Wales can make top breaks for all sorts of travellers…
What to expect from a west Wales caravan holiday
The good news about a holiday like this starts before you’ve even left home, as most static caravans are packed with handy bits and bobs like bedding, kitchen kit and barbecues. That means no need to spend ages gathering all the assorted kit you’d expect to take on a camping holiday – instead you can focus on selecting whatever glad rags you’ll want to wear and packing up the stuff you’ll need for the outdoor adventures that tend to feature on a west Wales holiday.
So what exactly will be provided at these west Wales caravans, and what will you need to bring along? Well, that will vary from site to site, so be sure to check the listing carefully before heading off lest you forget some vital piece of the puzzle.
Gasping for a cup of tea after the journey? You may well find the essentials provided for a drink or two, but anything else you want on the food and drink front you’ll need to bring along. Happily, this part of the world is well supplied with farm shops selling tasty morsels to eat – and you’ll have a kitchen on hand to help you prep it (a winner both for keeping costs down and for those nights when you just don’t fancy eating out).
It’s also likely that you’ll be looking at a winner on the location front too – there’s heaps of fab scenery around this part of the world (and not heaps of people) so those who own static caravans in west Wales don’t tend to bung them out any old place. Mountain view, riverside spot (top pick for fishing types), close to the coast path, part of a family smallholding… take your pick.
West Wales static caravans: something for everyone
Is there a certain kind of traveller that takes caravan holidays in west Wales? Well, not really – the only thing folk at these sites tend to have in common is an enthusiasm for the scenery, attractions and activities that can be found around these parts.
Bringing the family along? A static caravan park in Wales is a splendid fuss-free option: with most caravans having at least two bedrooms and a lounge there should be plenty of space for everyone – notably for the grownups to have somewhere comfy to chill out after they’ve packed the nippers off to bed. A kitchen is a most handy feature if you’ve got picky eaters in your party (and for stashing your wine in the fridge…) and the open space that tends to come with such places is fab for wearing the tiddlers out with outdoor games.
Static caravan stays can be fab for small groups of pals too: your own space to socialise in can really help keep costs down on a hol, with the added bonus of not having to appoint a designated driver to get you home at the end of the evening.
Don’t shy away if you’re just travelling as a couple though – pick a static caravan stay and you’ll just have a whole lot more space to play with than if you invested the same money in a hotel (plus that fridge for your wine… and most likely a deck to sip it on). Lots of places will let you bring your four-legged friend along if you need a bit of added company – just search for dog-friendly static caravans in west Wales.
The tiptop attractions for your west Wales caravan stay
Well, the obvious place to start is the coast, eh? And what a coastline it is over here, with a bit of something for every kind of visitor. The Wales Coast Path is a must for anyone who fancies a walk – either a gentle stroll or a proper leg-stretching hike depending on your appetite for exercise.
Pretty Pembrokeshire claims much of the fame for coastal gorgeousness around here (it is, after all, home to the only UK national park designed specifically to honour the coastline: the aptly-named Pembrokeshire Coast National Park). It’s worth noting that neighbouring Carmarthenshire has some mighty fine spots to pick off, too – so do cast an eye over there if you’re after something under-the-radar.
Beach time? West Wales has it in (buckets and) spades. Try Tenby for classic family seaside antics, Newgale for surf waves (and surf schools), and Barafundle Bay for some of the most scenic seaside in all the land. In between sandy outings it’s worth seeking out other coast-based visits too, whether you set off for St Davids (Britain’s smallest city), play at being knights at Manorbier Castle or board boats in search of the dolphins, seals and puffins that hang out around Ramsey and Skomer islands.
Nippers not got the patience for such things? Guarantee your animal spottings at Folly Farm Adventure Park & Zoo or Manor Wildlife Park, or get them all tired out with days of haring about at Blue Lagoon waterpark and Heatherton World of Activities.
Less frantic times can all be on the cards too: perhaps a meander around the National Botanic Garden of Wales, a historic amble around Castell Henllys Iron Age village or a trip to see where Dylan Thomas penned his poems in Laugharne.
