General
- Alpine setting site in a walkers' paradise
- Spectacular mountain views among the Mont Blanc massif
- Several walks and hikes starting straight from the site
'Spectacular' barely even covers the jaw-dropping vistas at this splendid Swiss site.
Set a few minutes' walk from the swish resort of La Fouly in the Mont Blanc massif, Camping des Glaciers is surrounded by stunning mountain peaks, among blazes of colourful flowers and frequently under deep blue skies: it's not a massif stretch to see why it's been described as 'one of the most beautiful places I have ever stayed' by a highly impressed former guest.
This lush place is 1,600 metres above sea level, in a peaceful and quiet wildlife haven bordering Italy and France. You absolutely have to hike while you're here, as the surroundings are first-rate and the paths aplenty (several walks and hikes start directly from the site). Or there's rock climbing, mountain biking, treetop adventuring, and – an absolute must – taking a guided walk with a handsome St Bernard dog: this part of Switzerland is the Pays du St-Bernard, after all…
Camping des Glaciers pitches are set between hedgerows along the river or on terraces in a meadow. Guests all have access to a communal lounge with TV and internet corner, and to smart, modern and spotless amenities including hot water, free showers and a baby changing room, along with a covered washing-up area and a launderette. As befits such a beaut setting, barbecues are allowed so you can eat alfresco – pretty much mandatory among views such as these.
The site also has a well-equipped playground: if you're sticking around for the day, take the kids to swing about here while you lie back and soak up more of those fine mountain views.

Local attractions
Camping des Glaciers is less than a kilometre from the Swiss Val Ferret resort of La Fouly: start off at the tourist office to see what's on offer in and around the town from the heady local mixture of sports, strolls, nature spotting and birdwatching. There's also the option of joining one of the many local events such as venison hikes through the valley or daily brunch at the Ars pasture – speaking of local gastronomy, check out the regional AOC raclette cheese while you're here.
A stay in these parts will have you in Tour du Mont-Blanc (TMB) territory too if you're up for tackling part of one of the best-known long-distance walks in Europe. Taking the TMB in a clockwise direction from La Fouly will lead to over the Grand Col Ferret into Italy, climbing up almost 1,000 metres on a trek of three or four hours.
For a gentler time, make your way to the three valley lakes of the Lacs de Fenêtre for waterside strolls and yet more spectacular views.
