General

  • Surrounded by the spectacular scenery of the Valais mountain region
  • Spacious pitches and modern amenities
  • Restaurant, pool and playground

Just. Look. At that pool.

This watery wonder is at Camping du Botza in Switzerland's mountainous region of Valais, surrounded by the sort of spectacular scenery you'd expect from the words 'Switzerland's mountainous region', and along the Rhône Valley in Switzerland's southwest, a land of alps and glaciers, woodland and walking, and subtropical areas among leafy landscapes… (Book for a couple of weeks: you'll need them.)

The site is near Sion, capital of the canton of Valais (that sounds rather epic), close to a pine forest and a river. It has tennis courts and table tennis, a playground, and that spectacular pool, open from mid-May until the end of August to guests of all ages.

Du Botza's restaurant is open from Tuesday to Sunday inclusive and has an outdoor seating area for summer; guests can also pick up refreshments and essentials at the site grocery shop, and order fresh bread and croissants for delivery the next morning.

The modern and well maintained amenities include a bathroom block with separate shower cabins and toilets, a parent and baby washroom and a toilet and shower with disabled access.

Please note

Local city tax of 0.50 CHF per person aged 16 and over per night and city tax of 0.25 CHF per person aged 6 to 15 years per night are not included in prices and will be added to your remaining balance.

    Well...

The approach to this AMAZING site might initially turn you off. It is situated at the back of an industrial area. HOWEVER, you would never know as we didn't get disturbed once from any activity.

Upon arrival we waited in the bar/restaurant area where a wonderful Afternoon Tea Dance was taking place. It was chocablock! I loved it, as did my daughters. We only had to wait a few minutes (manager was taking young daughter to school) before being allocated our plot and getting entry codes etc.

The site is well kept and the owner/manager is extremely helpful. We were able to pick our own camping place (we were allocated a plot but told if we didn't like it, just find another one and let them know).

The pool was the top favourite pool of all the campsites we used on our tour of Europe this summer. It has a lifeguard in case you wonder about having diving boards and a Gorilla slide lol. At it's busiest, there was still acres of space to swim and have fun. There is a lovely grassed area adjacent to sunbath. There is a toddler pool, but my children are 11-13 so we are unable to comment on it.

The restaurant is open for drinks all day and food for lunch and evenings. We had pizza and chips from there which was delicious. I hope everyone is aware that Switzerland is expensive to eat out.

The amenities are very well kept and clean.

This is definitely a hidden jewel and I thoroughly recommend it

Pleasant location with grass pitches, nice pool area - water heated (but not enough :), nice playground, friendly staff, good restaurant with wide choice of meals (pricing comparable to Swiss realities),

    Disliked:

Little bit noisy in morning due to location at the edge of industrial zone but if using camp only for overnight stay no harm done :)

The best swimming pool of all the 6 camp sites we stayed at during this trip!! The camp site is well sign-posted off the motorway so was easy to find, which was really helpful to us. Staff were helpful and friendly. Ample parking outside the ground if needed. Sion is only a short distance away and is well worth a visit, with spectacular castles and scenery. Unfortunately for us, we were visiting over a weekend so a good number of the shops were closed.

    Disliked:

Terrible wi-fi - only available very early in the morning (e.g. About 7am) for some reason, and only right outside the reception. Toilet / shower areas looking a little tired and could do with a renovation.

From the manager...

Hello,
I am very happy you liked our campsite and you recommand it to your friends. Thank you ! I am very happy also, you intend to come back one day, but I am a little bit astonished that, in this case, you only give us a 6 ...
Concerning the wi-fi, we have an optical cable with 50mb down and upload ... We have 6 antenas on the campsite, but i admit you can't receive the wi-fi everywhere (80% of the campsite only) and the wi-fi is a little bit "capricious" (windows, leafes, metal, neighborhood... can interfer a lot ... sometimes).
The campsite has been built in the seventies, but everything is clean and regularly renewed, since 2012 only : restaurant, office, super-market, have been rebuild, this year : swimming-pool filter + stairs + toboggans have been changed, next year children play-ground + bungalows, are planned to be renewed also.... We know we have a lot to do, each year, and for 40 years now, my family has tried to doit's best ... but we are not perfect and try to improve each day ...

Local attractions

The Valais surrounding Camping du Botza is lovely land, along the Rhône River between the Rhône River Valley's glacier and stupendous Lake Geneva, and with landscapes as diverse as subtropical areas and snowy peaks. Several towns such as Sion, Verbier and Chamason are within easy reach.

Du Botza sits 450 metres up high and is in splendid setting for mountain hikes, strolls, biking, climbing, and nature trailing in summer among its nearby woodland. Several cycling tracks and scenic pathways along small streams are at the base of the mountain.

If you're around with the kids, try the Aquaparc waterpark in Port-Valais (teens might enjoy feeling posh and pampered at the thermal baths of Ovronnaz and Saillon). And if you're around in the colder months? You'll be in easy reach of famed ski resorts such as Thyon, Veysonnaz, Crans-Montana, Nendaz, Verbier, Ovronnaz and Anzère.
