  • Small and peaceful site in the Asturias village of Cadavedo
  • A 20-minute stroll from Cadavedo beach
  • Pool, lounge and bar-restaurant with terrace and garden
Mmm, cheese. And mmmm, cider. And mmmm, beaches. And a combo of these three things Asturias is famed for – well, sí gracias. Put yourself within easy reach of scoffing, seaside and sightseeing with a stay at Camping La Regalina in the village of Cadavedo, an hour’s drive from Oviedo and a leisurely stroll from some spectacular sands. Day tripping within half an hour or so might take you along the coast to little fishing villages, up into the hills to hike through a gorge, or to a museum dedicated to the giant squid (bet you’ve never been to one of those before…). Days can also be well spent on site too, where there’s an outdoor pool for splashing about in and/or reclining alongside, and a playground and various organised antics to keep the nippers amused. A communal lounge provides a comfy place to hang out when you need a little indoor time, with a box of toys for the small sorts. Eats and drinks can easily be sorted in or out: if you’re feeling a little lazy, La Regalina has its own bar-restaurant with a shaded terrace and garden; should you fancy stretching your legs, the restaurants, bakeries and grocery shops of Cadavedo are a 10-minute trot away. Eco-friendly motorists may well be chuffed to note the presence of electric car charging facilities on site.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Close to a lovely beach for paddle boarding. The pool was good for the children. Clean and cheap. Local butchers was a 5 mins walk and beautiful meat.

Disliked: The noise from other campers (long term Spanish) went on until 1am. The attitude of the long term campers when the second night our daughter made friends and they were playing and having fun at 9pm for an hour. Cold showers. Uneven pitches. WiFi only worked near reception.

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: Friendly staff at reception, good unlimited hot showers, reasonable amount of shade, level pitches, nice pool, close to beach. Facilities were kept very clean. Good shop. Handy stop not far from A8 motorway.

Disliked: Not many touring pitches which were all in the centre, surrounded by permanent caravans with awnings. These were mostly occupied by Spanish families who seemed to be there at weekends - most departed on Sunday afternoon but it was quite lively until late on Saturday night so go during the week if you prefer quiet. Had to get water from washing up block as no taps in camping area (though not far).

Electric optional grass tent or motorhome pitch

Liked: The bar, restaurant and the small shop were fine.

Disliked: There was no drinking water to fill my tank or an area to empty grey water. There's only maybe 8 pitches the rest are all permanently sited and with huge awnings. Lots of people arrived on the Friday night and partied til 2 or 3 am both Friday and Saturday nights.

Local attractions

Earn yourself a few chunks of local cheese by heading out for a walk nearby – the 20-minute stroll to Cadavedo beach is probably a given, but also consider a similar length of wandering to get to Ermita de La Regalina, a 1930s shrine and viewpoints with some of the area’s best coastal vistas. A little further along the coast are the fishing villages of Cudillero and Luarca, both around a 20-minute drive away. Luarca, in the west, is a bit of a foodie hotspot with some fab restaurants and a great Wednesday market; to the east, Cudillero is home to the Palace, a neoclassical place with an art collection including works by Goya and El Greco. Also worth a visit nearby are the Las Hoces del Esva gorge and river walking trail, and the ancient Castro de Coaña, a fortress and village thought to date back to the fourth century BC. And of course those giant squid… you can learn all about them at Luarca’s Parque de la Vida y Museo del Calamar Gigante, a nature and science park with special exhibition on the marine beasties.
