General

  • Quiet site with a family-friendly atmosphere
  • Close to mountains, ponds and rivers
  • On-site swimming pool, bar and restaurant

Ever been to Extremadura? It's a mighty fine place for Roman around, as it's filled with ruins from the times of toga – and with nature reserves, forests, mountains and lakes in a green and ancient land.

Come, see (and conquer) it all at Camping Bungalows Roma, a family-run campsite in the region that's in a handy spot to use as a base for Extremadura highlights like capital Mérida, Cáceres and Trujillo, and the teeny remote hamlets and crumbling hilltop castles dotting the surroundings.

Roma has an outdoor pool, surrounded by a spacious garden for relaxing, sunbathing or having a game of volleyball or badminton; a tennis court, a football pitch and a playground and a TV room. Amenities include a laundry room with washing machines, a washing-up area and facilities blocks with free hot showers.

Forget about sorting your own supper here too: the restaurant serves up dishes from the region for your dinners and suppers: that's all mighty fine too.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 22/06 and 05/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

No hen/stag parties permitted via Pitchup.com.

  • Liked:

    Shaded pitch.

    Disliked:

Incredibly noisy. Opposite childrens play area with squeaky equipment and large family swimming pool, children playing loudly until 1am every night.
Site staff spent 1 hour banging trees with sticks and plastic bottles to scare off roosting birds.
Facilities very dated, some broken, not clean.
At check in given a leaflet of site rules. As instructed we lit a small barbeque on our pitch only to be screamed and shouted at by a member of staff for lighting a barbeque!
(This is the type of site where touring caravans are stored permanently with accompanying sheds, kitchen tents etc. Looked like Steptoes yard).

Local attractions

Apart from all the Roman ruins, the nature reserves and the handsome historic villages, the Extremadura region around Camping Bungalows Roma is one to get stuck into if you're feeling active: kayaking and canoeing, hiking, cycling, horse riding and skiing are all available around the nearby Sierra de Béjar and Monfragüe's national park.

Many scenic and peaceful days out are within a short drive, such as around the small medieval village and Jewish quarter of Barrio Judío de Hervás, or the ancient walled town of Granadilla, one of Spain's historic-artistic towns.

Get Roman around those ruins at province capital Mérida, Cáceres and Trujillo, or make like you were there at the time with an immersion in the Roman baths of Montemayor.
