Maestrat Park: motorhome and camping pitch

General

  • Between the Orange Blossom Coast and the Serra d'Irta
  • San Jordi village five minutes' drive; 15 minutes from a golf course
  • Gym, large pool with sundeck, reading room and library

This Spanish site is simply a beaut – and the location's pretty special too.

Take a look at the photos to see the fab blue pool and well-kept facilities, then get acquainted with its setting: Maestrat Park is an hour north of Castellón, between the Orange Blossom Coast and the Serra d'Irta – and in an area filled with attractions, scenic walks and quiet little villages…

And beaches: the sands of Benicarló are 25 minutes' drive away, and the popular seaside resort of Peñiscola and fishing harbour of Vinaròs are just east and west along the coast from there. Other Spanish seaside towns such as Oropesa del Mar and Benicàssim are easily driveable for day trips.

Back at base, there's lots to do and stacks of space to lounge around at: have mornings floating lazily in the pool, afternoons basking on the sundeck… There's a gym if you want to keep up your fitness levels, and a reading room with a library and internet point if you're not so fussed about workouts.

This is a lovely site but a little tired which is a shame as it should be an absolute gem! The deluxe pitch was a really good size (we were 8m 65 and drove on with no issues. Lots of space. The showers were fantastic…. Clean, hot water plentiful ( were being renovated but not an issue as site quiet)

Barman Michael was a lovely chap and very helpful.

Beautiful countryside for cycling and walking.

    Disliked:

Site a little tired. It looked like the site was trying to update and was installing static mobile homes.

During our visit which I understand was out of season and during 3 kings did not have shop or restaurant open but still paid price as advertised for being open. These things would not stop me going again 😀

Onley problem was, the main showers and toilets were closed for a re-furbishment.
There was an alternative by the outside swimming pool.
This was no big deal and once the re-furb's complete everthing 'll be tickety boo

Close to Vivaros which is a lovely little town. Did the job just needed a stop over of one night on the way home.

    Disliked:

Very scruffy and there appeared to be quite a few ‘traveller’ families staying there and the children were noisy and messy especially in the service block. Our pitch was next to the pool and there were several empty beer bottles on the pitch when we arrived. The pitch next door was home to a ‘caravan’ and smashed up uk registered car propped up on detached tyres, it has obviously been there for a long time. None of these things were a problem for a one night stay but wouldn’t have been keen to stay longer.

Local attractions

This smashing seaside and setting will put you close to the fine sandy beaches and warm blue waters of the Province of Castellón, as well as to towns and mountains, villages and fishing, ancient heritage and natural park landscapes.

Days' worth of days out are within 45 minutes' drive of the site, including fishing in the Ebro river and sightseeing in Morella, the ancient walled city set high on a hilltop. It's just over an hour to Castellón de la Plana, with its 13th-century cathedral and 15th-century bell tower (make for the town square to see most of the best-known old buildings).

The beaches of Benicarlo are a popular destination in the region, as is the old town of Peñiscola and its Knights Templar Peñiscola Castle (the 'city in the sea' is so spectacular it's been used as a location for Game of Thrones).

This region is mountainous as well as seasidey, so also take time to trek around the shrubland, woodland, castles and Moorish watchtowers of the Natural Park of Serra d'Irta, a marine nature reserve running parallel to the coast.

A golf course is within 15 minutes' drive and San Jordi village five minutes' drive away.
