General

  • Spectacularly scenic site overlooking the Sierra Nevada mountains
  • Bus stop right outside the site for 25-minute rides into Granada
  • Pool, bar and terrace restaurant serving tasty tapas dishes

The splendiferousness of the views from Camping Alto de Viñuelas is something that previous guests consistently rave about: the site looks out over the smashing Sierra Nevada mountains, also highly visible from the site’s restaurant terrace, which is where guests can head to sip on afternoon aperitifs and devour highly tasty local dishes.

Also splendidly, this site is in a most handy spot for visiting Granada, with a stop right outside the site served by a bus that takes a mere 25 minutes to reach the city, dropping pilgrims off right at Granada’s Albayzín district. Friendly staff are on hand to book tickets on your behalf to Granada’s spectacular palace and fortress complex of Alhambra, and will also happily point out where in the city you need to make tracks for to catch the bus back to base.

Speaking of which, the park itself is a simple but well-appointed one, with an outdoor pool and neighbouring paddling pool at which to spend spells splashing and relaxing, which will be most easy as the grounds are a wondrous wildlife haven filled with trees and grassy areas, amidst much revelling in the distant mountain views can be done.

On-site eats are sorted at the terrace restaurant, which serves up tasty local dishes (a sample of the local sausage is highly recommended) and tons of tapa plates – again, the views from here are spectacular, but should ever the weather become inclement, one can hole up cosily by the fireplace indoors.

When a wander off site for supplies takes your fancy, head down the hill toward the tiptop local town of Beas De Granada, which has two small but well-stocked supermarkets from which to pick up supplies to barbecue back at base, plus a friendly local bar that serves tapassy tidbits and drinks; on Sunday afternoons, a van that sells rotisserie chicken and fries can be found in the town square.

Please note

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 01/05 and 15/09 (subject to weather conditions).

Really handy for visiting Granada, there is a bus stop right outside the site - the bus takes 20 mins and will drop you right at the Albaicin. The staff were really helpful, booked our Alhambra tickets for us and showed us on the map where to get the return bus. Lovely view of the Sierra Nevada. Restaurant on site.

Local attractions

As one might expect from a site settled into a scenic region such as this, plenty of walks and cycling routes are available directly from the site, such as that which runs between the local town of Beas and Granada, providing the area’s most spectacular views over the Sierra Nevada mountain range.

The spectacular Sierra de Huétor Natural Park is an easy 20-minute amble from Camping Alto de Viñuelas too: filled with narrow ravines, steep cliffs, natural springs and deep dark caves, it’s a most pleasant spot to explore on foot or by bike. For those with tiddlers in tow, also within easy reach is a treetop adventure park for swings and clambers among sky-high rope and tree courses.

A time-old tale attracts treasure seekers from all over to the site’s local town of Beas de Granada: locals say that a wealthsome merchant once concealed his fortune in one of two statues here before heading off to war; one has been torn down, but if you fancy your chances of striking gold, the other statue still stands. Perhaps befriending a knowledgeable native in the local taverna might give you a clue?

If you’re planning on having a car on your hols, a trip should most certainly be made to the Cueva del Agua, which can be reached in about 40 minutes. If you’re handy on a bike – or fancy a three-hour hike – the park’s most renowned spring, Fuente Grande, is around 12 kilometres away, and is so famed as its waters were transported by the Moors to Granada’s Albaicín palace… Also an excellent spot for a sightsee, and accessed via a 25-minute bus ride that picks guests up from right outside the site.
