  • In a spectacularly scenic region 300 metres above sea level
  • Among olive groves and vineyards, a 40-minute drive from Cordoba
  • Pool, games room, TV room, play area and restaurant with terrace
What a pretty – and peaceful – park this is. If you're off for a sightseeing trek around the magnificent Cordoba but keen to retreat from thronging crowds in between days around the ancient city, you'll have a tiptop stay at Camping La Campiña. It's a 40-minute drive from the site to the old city of Cordoba (or around an hour on the buses that leave locally seven times a day), but you could be hours from heaving urban areas here: La Campiña's rural setting is set 300 metres above sea level, in a stunning part of Andalusia characterised by vast olive groves, wheat fields, vineyards, white towns and old castles. As you'll surmise from the pics, Camping La Campiña is a highly handsome place, with loads of space, plenty of facilities and spectacular views. Facilities include a pool, a games room, a TV room and a play area for those serene days on site, to be surely followed by a long and leisurely evening over traditional local eats and drinks at the restaurant terrace. The friendly team organises evening entertainment in high season.

Local attractions

The stunning olive grove, mountain and vineyard landscapes are the main draw around this chunk of the Córdoba province: hire a bike on site, head off on foot or take to the car around the mountains and Andalusia's famed Route of the White Towns for spectacular sightseeing. Wine routes around the local cellars and vineyards are also easily reached: ask the team for tips to set you on your way. Hikes are all around: for access to several somewhat spectacular ones, drive for an hour and 10 minutes to Cardeña, one of the visitor centres for the Sierra de Cardeña y Montoro Natural Park (the other is in Córdoba). You can pick up maps and details of hikes from here, as well as access several of the park's viewsome walks. At Córdoba, the biggest must-see (among many old piles) is the eighth-century mosque La Mezquita, which became a Catholic church after the fall of Islamic rule in the 13th century. Then let your feet guide you to more stunning sights after that: Córdoba has the second biggest Old Town in Europe and the biggest UNESCO-listed urban area in the world. Kayaking, fishing, wildlife watching and waterside walks can all be sorted at the Guadalquivir river and the San Rafael de Navallana reservoir, both about 30 minutes' drive away.
