Swimming pools

General

  • Large family-friendly site 20 minutes' walk from central Quarteira
  • 10 minutes' walk from a long sandy beach with calm water for swimming
  • Bar-restaurant, playground and waterpark with waterslide

Sprawling sandy beaches, golf courses galore, easy day trips and heaps of sea-view eateries – Quarteira’s quite the spot for a fab family break.

Plonk yourselves down at Parque Orbitur Quarteira and you’ll be a mere 10-minute trot from a quiet stretch of beach, with calm waters and plenty of soft sand making it a particularly fine spot for those with tinies in tow. Wander for a further 10 minutes or so along that beach and you’ll hit the resort’s centre, for shops, restaurants and bakeries (for those whose Portuguese hols are, quite rightly, not complete without a daily dose of custard tart).

Should you fancy a bit of lazy lounging around on site, you’ll be chuffed to see there’s a restaurant, bar and mini market to sort your eats and drinks on a day that may well revolve around the waterpark (a sizeable affair with waterslide, paddling pool, water play area and plenty of loungers for sunbathing and/or siestas).

Out and about, it’s a cinch to fill many a day either in the resort (with dolphin-watching boat trips, parasailing or paddleboarding, perhaps), venturing to traditional villages inland or heading south to Faro – all are within an easy half-hour drive.

Please note

Your dog must be tattooed or microchipped.

The site does not accept breeds/crossbreeds listed in the Dangerous Dogs Act and/or any of the following: Staffordshire bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Rottweiler, any Mastiff or Tosa.

The outdoor swimming pool is open between 15/03 and 30/09 (subject to weather conditions).

The restaurant is open between 24/03 and 15/09.

Entertainment and activities are available between 01/07 and 01/09.

The grocery shop is open between 01/01 and 30/09.

Dogs are not allowed in the accommodation units.

Not straight pitches, while sleeping you're rolling on one side. Not clean. You need to find your place where to built tent. Cables across the paths and roads - bad when walking. Some staff lazy.

    Convenience of location

    Disliked:

The worst night's sleep I've ever had! We stayed here for just 1 night (thank goodness) as a stopover. Noisy neighbours til 3am (despite it saying quiet from 11pm), local dogs barking ALL night, and an infestation of ants as soon as we brought food into our cabin. The pool was freezing and the slide was more of a 'push yourself along because it doesn't slide'. Won't be returning in a hurry!

Check in process took too long (i know it’s peak season, but still)

    The showers/toilets need updating.

The local dogs bark continuously throughout the night (Ear plugs are essential).

The pool opens at 10am and closes at 7pm which i think is far too early for the people who are exploring the area and not just staying in the campsite the whole time.

Clean (but dated) facilities26/08/2019

  • Liked:

The swimming pool and the slide were a great hit with our kids. There's plenty of shade around the pools (trees) and we always managed to find a nice spot and also sun beds most of the time. The camp site seemed to be full of Portuguese families and summer camps and there were very few people speaking other languages. The facilities were cleaned a few times a day - it seemed that there were cleaners there all the time.

    Disliked:

The 'boogie cabins' are located very close to each other so not much private space. The decking in front of our cabin was so old that the nails we sticking out of it and our kids were getting splinters all the time. The facilities are dated.

From the manager...

Good site for size of pitch. Staff not that friendly, found it hard.29/07/2019

We all liked the size of pitch and the area from which you could walk quite easily to the beach and promenade, where you could find a good choice of restaurants.

    Disliked:

I phoned as my ferry was delayed, so I asked that I could arrive two days later and just have 3 days. On the phone the lady said yes thats ok, as you choose your own pitch and there are plenty, she then put the phone down, not letting her give me my reference or anything.
So when we arrived there was confusion and they wanted to charge me for five nights, we pitched up and paid for one, as they said they would let us know the next day.
So went down in the morning, then they said they would let us know in the afternoon.
I got annoyed then, as we wanted to get on with our day, so said I would wait. I had told them I phoned and showed them the number, but they were funny. Finally, they said we only had to pay for the 3 nights, but this spoilt it a little bit, they don't understand much english, but I had phoned in advance. So they didn't take my deposit off, I lost that, which is annoying. We didn't even stop anyone else booking, as they had not booked our pitch, we were able to choose from at least 30.
Not good, I lost 30 euros this way.
The showers were cold in one block, so we had to walk to the other side, but not the worst problem.

From the manager...

Thank you for your visit. we appreciate your comments. Sorry for the inconvenients. You should know it's not easy just to decide by ourselves when you chose to book through a tour operator. Hope you understand.

Local attractions

It’ll likely be no surprise to hear that the beach is the main attraction around here: a couple of kilometres of gently sloping sand that makes for some excellent paddling. Vilamoura, at the far end of town (about a 10-minute drive) is the place for those who’d like to take to the sea: surf lessons, parasailing and fishing or dolphin-spotting boat trips can all be had over here.

Golfers with enough stamina to play a different course every day for a week have come to the right place: there are seven top-notch courses around the Quarteira and Vilamoura areas.

Kid-friendly outings around the resort include Aquashow Park and the Zoomarine aquarium and marine park (a half-hour drive away). To take in a bit of local life, you’re recommended to visit the village of Loulé, 20 minutes away by car and home to a gorgeous Moorish castle and a fab market.
