General

  • Quiet site on the edge of a forest in Little Switzerland
  • Direct access to the Syndicat d'Initiative Medernach barefoot path
  • Pool, paddling pool, restaurant, shop and spotless modern amenities

What a smashing setting for peaceful and scenic Luxembourg stays. Camping Auf Kenger is in a quiet and greenly scenic setting near Larochette in the canton of Mersch, surrounded by the spectacular scenery of Little Switzerland.

Although the site is in a walkers' paradise, you won't need your boots or even your flipflops to access the easiest local stroll, as there's direct access from here to the Syndicat d'Initiative Medernach barefoot path, taking you into the adjacent small forest via a variety of different textures to feel under your toes. Dozens of the scenic walks of the Little Switzerland region are accessible nearby, including the 112-kilometre marked hiking and biking path of the Mullerthal Trail, along its three routes.

There's no boisterous entertainment or deafening disco here, just a serene, laidback vibe amid heaps to do for all ages. Kids have a big and sandy outdoor playground to keep them busy in the fresh air, and an excellently-sized indoor playground too to retreat to if the weather's not fully co-operative. Also on site are an outdoor pool and a paddling pool,
open from Easter to the end of September and toasty at all times thanks to its solar heat collector system.

The restaurant is open all season, for meals around the cosy log fire in the colder months, and on the sunny terrace in summer. For alfresco eats of your own choosing, build up a barbecue or campfire to cook up supplies from the well-stocked site shop; gas sales are available if you need to stock up.

Pitches on site are surrounded by trees, shrubs and hedges, home to birds and other wildlife: if you're on the trail of more nature while here, ask the team for an 'adventure rucksack', which you can use on a nature spotting foray into the adjoining forest.

The spotless amenities were fully updated in 2014. As with the pool, restaurant and shop, the washroom blocks are full accessible to disabled guests, although the Camping Auf Kenger team asks guests to please note that the site is on a gentle slope.

Please note

Under 18s must be accompanied by their parents or legal guardians.

The shop and the restaurant are closed between 01/11 and 01/03.

Wow - what a find! A fantastic, family friendly campsite! ... 12/08/2017

Wow - what a find! A fantastic, family friendly campsite! Situated just outside of Larochette, Camping Auf Kengert is ideal for those with children.
We stayed on this comfortably sized campsite for a week and took full advantage of what it has to offer.
    - The wash block was incredibly clean with ample facilities for washing both yourself and your dishes. It also featured a children's bathroom with lower level sinks, a bath for babies, and shower/baths for toddlers; a great feature not previously seen.
    - The swimming pool was a really good size for normal swimming or playing with the family.
    - There are two play areas; one indoor and one outdoor. My daughter loved the indoor play area on the really hot days.
    - There was also different forms of children's entertainer that visited the camp site our visit such as the face painters and clown. Both were great and kept there little audiences enthralled.
    - The shop was incredibly well appointed with all types of camping spares, souvenirs, food, drink and a great selection of fresh bread and pastries in the morning.
    - The onsite restaurant and bar was also welcome addition for those nights when you don't want to cook. You can sit down inside or outside of a rather charming eating space or chose to take away some of the choices.
In summary, we cannot recommend highly enough. We will be returning.

A pleasant place to stay 25/06/2017

The site has many static caravan positions, and is very quiet. The shower/toilet facilities are noticeably solar powered and are very clean, spacious, and evidently newly installed.

Woods surround the site, and this, together with a large adjacent field and make for a feeling of open space.

There is a well stocked shop on site together a restaurant and bar. The solar heated outdoor swimming pool is adjacent.

We had a 10 x 10m pitch which, whilst slightly sloping, did enable us to pitch to the best advantage.

A bus/train travel concession is a welcome addition.

A lovely, homely campsite. We had a hut for one night as we were touring and did not want to pitch up a tent every day, so the hut was perfect.

The staff were very welcoming and helpful. The restaurant served delicious good quality food. You were able to order bread and there was a shop on site as well.
facilities were spotless and the campsite is located in beautiful country side with pretty towns nearby.

This campsite is clean and the staff is very welcoming. There's a lot of things on the spot: swimming pool, restaurant, little shop (with fresh bread and pastries) and much more than that but I only use the shop and the restaurant.

The place is quiet and easy to find as there are signs clearly indicating where to find it.

    Disliked:

We have tried to use the wifi Wi-Fi but none of us (a couple) have been able to use it. We only stayed for one night though so it was not too much of a problem.

Take the barefoot trail from the site first, to feel varied terrain like grass, sand, stone and wood beneath your toes, then source a map a reception and set off on a local stretch of the Mullerthal Trail around the rock formations, brooks and spectacular views over the Sûre valley.

Local town Larochette on the White Ernz river is overlooked by the partial ruins of 11th-century Larochette Castle, open to the public daily from Easter until the end of October. Castle fans should also see one of the biggest fortified castles this side of the Rhine at Vianden, within half an hour's drive, and the triangular pile of nearby Bourscheid, high on a promontory overlooking the Sûre river.

Echternach, Luxembourg City and Trier in Germany are all 30 to 60 minutes' drive away. Before heading off to the capital, buy a Luxembourg Card at reception for free bus and tram transport as well as discounted rates of many of Luxembourg's attractions and museums – many for free. .
