- Pool, paddling pool, pizzeria and restaurant all on site
Doing Florence on a budget? Also rather hankering after some gorgeously green Tuscan scenes? Consider a stay at the wallet-friendly Camping Village Internazionale Firenze.
This splendid spot in the suburb of Bottai is just seven kilometres from the centre of Florence (Piazza Santa Maria Novella or Piazza di Porta Romana), easily accessible via bus stop 37 a few minutes' walk away. Head in the other direction (again by bus if you like) to hit the hills of Chianti for days spent among olive groves, vineyards, castles and medieval villages.
Wherever you choose to wander, upon returning to the site the swimming pool and paddling pool await for cooling dips. The surrounding sun terrace is well equipped with sunbeds, deckchairs and umbrellas, and a lifeguard keeps an eye on proceedings to ensure a safe space for everyone.
For spells when a digital fix is needed, the site’s wifi service is available around the bar and reception areas, and a TV room is at guests’ disposal for further spells of screen-based downtime.
The on-site restaurant-pizzeria serves up tasty Tuscan dishes and pizzas to eat in or take away, and there’s a mini market with various bits and bobs for those who prefer a DIY approach to their dinner – fresh bread, milk and veggies along with tiptop local olive oils and, of course, a splendid selection of vinos from the vineyards of Chianti.

Take bus 37 from the stop behind the apse of Santa Maria Novella church, in the direction of Tavarnuzze. The local stop is Bottai. Once you arrive at Bottai, take a right (going down), continue for about 20 metres and turn left along Via di Colleramole. The site is 500 metres from here.
Local attractions
It’s safe to say you could easily fill several days in Florence and it’s recommended that you do, dropping in and out at your leisure on the number 37 bus (to avoid falling victim to Stendhal Syndrome, the term coined by the 19th-century writer to describe the feeling of being overwhelmed by the sheer volume of beauty and art in the city).
You’re also within easy reach of the hills of Chianti for rural rambles; a drive of 20 minutes or so will take yo to a cluster of wineries to learn how the famed reds make it from grape to glass. Also recommended are trips to the walled towns of Monteriggioni and San Gimignano, both about 45 minutes' drive away.
Impruneta, famed for its pottery and ceramics, is another local spot well worth a wander around: three kilns here still follow ancient firing techniques dating back to the 11th century, with some studios open to the public for both purchases and tours. Stick around for lunch and find a pleasant terrace eatery on the town square: a splendid spot for alfresco eats.
