The first great thing about Camping Village Baia Blu La Tortuga? There's direct access through a pine forest to a splendid Sardinia sandy beach. A stroll of a few minutes takes you from your pitch to the sea and the site's diving centre, which organises everything from sailing, diving and windsurfing classes to boat excursions for snorkelling classes. Guests can also rent boats or go wakeboarding, banana boating, waterskiing and parasailing from the beach, and not too far away lies a fine spot for fishing at the cliffs. Splashing even closer to home is sorted at the waterpark (built in 2018), where there's a semi-Olympic swimming pool, spray park and wellness area. Procure all your usual brightly coloured beach bits – inflatables, buckets, spades, snorkels – at the on-site shop, and rent an umbrella and deckchair at the beach upon which to plonk yourself, accompanied by a beverage from the bar nearby. For fuel, pack up a picnic or have lunch at the beachfront snack bar. Next, the on-site eating options: make your way to the site's central square for a self-serve buffet and a pizzeria with a takeaway service; if one fancies dining à la carte, the chef’s specialities include regional dishes such as porcetto, malloreddus and seadas. Daytime activities and evening entertainment are in the square too, with everything from beach volleyball, ping pong, archery, bowls and tennis tournaments to aerobics, Latino and group dance classes, cabaret shows and live music nights arranged in high season. For kids, there are aqua gym classes in the sea, archery and tennis in the mornings and baby dance in the evenings. Bonus facilities include a hair salon, massage treatments and a beautician service, as well as tennis courts, a gym, a well-stocked supermarket and a cash point.

Electric grass and sand pitch

Liked: Well organised campsite, smooth and fast check in, club car takes you around the campsite to choose the pitch and to show around, great aqua park and sport pool, just a few minutes walk to the beach, excellent market with plenty of groceries, camping, and beach staff choices. Live music at the sea side bar almost every other evening with nice deserts and English tea served.

Disliked: The pitching ground is quite hard to peg the tent, I would advise to use the drill (I have seen some do) or heavy duty pegs. Foot washing would be great by the beach exits and at the ground level where washing facilities are located. They only have foot washing basins in the underground level where the showers are which is not really convenient. Vegetarian/vegan options are limited to tomato pasta and one choice of vegetarian pizza at the campsite restaurant. The sale/tourist tax is different from the one invoiced by the pitchup.com causing confusion at the checkout.

Local attractions

For foodie adventures outside the park, pick up some seafood out in Santa Teresa Gallura, which is also a pleasant place for an evening wander among craft stalls and ice cream shops. A visit to one of the Agriturismo restaurants (set on farmsteads) is also a must: excellent food and wine and water are usually included in their reasonably priced set menus. By car, take a day trip from Santa Teresa to the old harbour in Corsica's Saint Boniface on the ferry – for grownups keen on non-stop shopping, eating out and taking in iconic sights from cinematic history, including The Count of Monte Cristo. You can also drive out to see the local nuraghi (ancient megalithic stone structures typical to Sardinia), 10 minutes' drive away, or a little further afield to the towns of Tempio Pausania, Sassari, Castelsardo and Aglientu.
